Boost - how soon to tune

off topic question: when you take your car to a dyno do you have to have a chipped ecu to tune it or can you keep the stock one and have the shops computer hook up to your car ?

If I boost my Civic I'm wondering if its safe to drive it before getting it tuned. I mean, how far can you drive it without causing damage? The nearest tuning shop is about 60 miles from where I live. Also, do you have to do a OBD1 conversion to be able to tune it (D16Y8).

You can tune it with an apexi AFC and stay obd0. I'm using the safc2 myself and msd activator switch for my vtec It's not the best way but if you can tune the afc good then it'll be fine I've been boosted for over a year now and have had no problems with the tune itself. As for the apexi safc2 unit, the screen went out quite a while ago I drove my hatch like 30mi to get to the dyno but I didn't drive it hard at all.
