buying a new macbook

Wait until after feb 10. I hear apple might be refreshing the MacBook pros then on the same day as ther verizon iPhone release. The only people that seem to hate Mac are gamers and and retards. I always recommend apple care on mobile products. Your MacBook has moving parts that can malfunction as well as a battery that can die and other parts that can just break. Apple care gives you a three year warranty so all those things are covered.

the only games i plan on playing on my macbook are games that can usually be played with a laptop....im nota WOW freak... so.. i wont have those problems... and as for anything else... i play battlefield 2 on PC... and im sorry... i will never replace my PC for a mac in order to play that game... most games were designed on PC and thats where ill play them... lol

my macbook will really be for doing everyday laptop things. i wont expect anything more out of it.

although i will buy that flight control game... it looks awesome... lol but im a sucker for games that i can play to no end.

so... i never even looked at the refurb macbooks... and... can someone tell me realy what the difference is? i know they are previously used... but explain refurbished...

will i still get it as it is new? meaning... in the box... with all paperwork and what not?

can i get it with preinstalled software?

and you said i can get the apple care?

anything to look out for?


in just a quick browse... i am able to pick up a refurb with more features than if i were to buy it new... as expected.

so my original budget can be stretched a little now that i see whats for sale.

A refurb comes in a brown box not a regular box. It carries exact warrenty a new one has. the only difference is really the box. You won't be able to tell that it was in another persons hand. You can get apple care. it's not a prob at all. Nothing really to look out for. You will not be able to pre install software but you can buy any software you need in the mac app store so no need to go out and buy anything at a store. Yeah, if they have what you want in a refurb get it!!!

So I have to admin, I spent some time yesterday playing with the iPad and I liked it.

Not as much as the Samsung Galaxy, but the iPad was nice.

You liked the iPad? They're kind of nifty, but I STILL don't see the point of those things (including the galaxy). It just seems like something to get if you have extra cash and you want something that ranges in portability / functioning between a phone and a laptop. I just can't think of examples where that would really be a necessity

Actually, WoW runs great on my 4/5 year old mac. Most new games come out for both mac and windows... so not being able to play games on a mac is quickly becoming a thing of the past. My girlfriend also frequently plays the Sims 3 and it also runs very nicely. For most games that aren't meant to run on a mac, you can usually use wine to get them running.

Here is why I own an iPad. I have skechtbook pro and use it as a mobile sketchpad with my tarsus stylus. I also use it to design on the fly, logos and such. I use it for reading comics/novels/magazines/newspapers. I also use it to take notes on while in class. It gives me the ability to have one thing that does most of my day to day tasks on and it only weighs 1.5 pounds. A buddy actually just made me a slip case for it last week. It's made of black leather and rabbit fur.

i was in tysons corner mall ( google it)

at christmas time... and there was a 3-4 year old in a stroller and he had an ipad and was playing a game....

at christmas time in a mall with thousands... i would not be leting my 3 year old anywhere close to my ipad... i literally couldve snatched it out of his hands.... and noone wouldve noticed...

iPad is great for school and studying anything really. I love mine! Although, since I got my macbook pro I haven't used it much, seeing as its much more mobile then my old pc laptop.

Chris - I agree... I wouldn't let my 3 year old near my iPad..... well... ever. lol. If I had one, that is... an iPad.... and a 3 year old.

Matt - Now you've seen my dilemma on where the iPad fits in the hierarchy of things. If you have a laptop (that's not an old clunker) and a smartphone... an iPad is pretty much useless, unless you have specialized needs (like Greg).

well, my reasoning is the mobility the macbook pro offers over my other two pc laptops I had, sure the macbook pro is just as heavy but its slim and fits just about anywhere pretty good. Its like two iPads layer on top of one another in size. My other laptop was like 3 and a half. I'm not talking old laptops either, its about 3 or 4 years old. Hell my old 10 year old dell was slimmer then most the s**t they release these days! I've used my ipad daily before I got my macbook pro, but I've cut down a bit now.

Its like we take a step back before going forward, but apple is in the right direction.

I kind of wish they remade the iMac g4, I loved the design, a refresh would make it awesome. Imagine a g4 with an i7 and 8gb of ram running OS X lion, I would love it!

iPad would useful in my line of work doing computer repair, could have my contracts, invoices and such on there so I could do instant changes to them, show them to the customer, and such. Would also be useful for using it while a clients place to update their file which I store on my server, but again, I can do that with the Galaxy as well.

now... at that same mall i mentioned... in the disney store... there was a general customer line... then... there was a woman walking around... and if you had your s**t ready to go... and were using a credit card... she had an iphone...or an ipod touch... i couldnt tell.. and it had a credit card scanner that clipped to the bottom of it... swipe... done... remote printed a reciept. and you were on your way

as do many of people, but you lack application quality in many apps. Don't get me wrong though, there are many good apps for the android, I just think the ipad does it better and android should only be used for phones. I have a droid X myself, this is my second droid, so not a biased opinion at all.
