About 130,000 miles on D16Y5 (VTEC-E) swap.
Modifications: Cold Air Intake, dropped on Skunk 2 coilovers.

I've had this problem for a while now and knew I was going to have to fix it eventually. I guess the time has come.

Yesterday, I went for a cruise on the town. No racing, no speeding, no nothing. Just a cruise at about 30-45 mph, you know, the average speed limit. Maybe for 45 minutes. I decided to park it with the engine still on and let it idle for about 10 minutes, then went to go fill up on some gas. When I tried to turn the engine back on, it turned for a little, sputtered, then turned off by itself. (That's where I've had the problem before.) I tried turning the car back on while giving it gas, but nothing gave in. If there was a pattern that I've noticed, it's that this problem occurs whenever I do high speeds at long periods of time, i.e. road trips and high ways. They also occur after idling for a while.

The first time this problem occurred(about a month ago) , I got home by giving it gas while trying to turn it over. Unfortunately it didnt work yesterday.

Since the first incident happened, I changed the spark plugs, replaced transmission fluid and the fuel filter.

After some research and feedback, I have a few options of what it could be:

-Throttle Position Sensor (whenever the engine turned over, the RPM's would idle a little higher for about two seconds, go lower to about 1,000 RPMs, then go to about 2,000 RPMs which would be at normal idle.)
-Faulty ECU
-Faulty Fuel pump
-Throttle body cable needs to be adjusted

There is a downfall to this dilemma. I took my car to autozone AND o'reilly to get the engine light code read (back when i barely bought the car in 08/13), but neither of their machines could read the computer.

Like I said, I have a few ideas of what it could be, but I'd rather have a more experienced feedback before I invest in different products that don't even have to do with the problem.

Thanks,
F.

I had a similar issue to this on my 96 hatch when I swapped the GSR in. It was idling like crap and then eventually died out. I managed to get it running while just hitting the gas pedal and it would idle for a bit. No one could read the computer. I used the jumper trick on the plug under the dash, pulled a 13, and found it to be a "Barometric Pressure Sensor" which essentially told me the ECU was shot. Threw another ECU in and never had an issue with it.

I'm not saying buy a new ECU, but when I pulled the code, it told me that was pretty much the issue.
Here's a how-to: http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1901557

The car doesn't need to turn over, just key on and have the CEL on.

Red flags^

Why do you refer to the engine as a swap? The stock HX engine is the D16Y5.

Remove the passenger kick panel to expose the ECU. Post a picture of the label pasted on the ECU.

Have you verified that you have a stock D16Y5 engine under the hood? If not, post pictures of the head and block codes of your engine.

Only reason I said swap was because previous owner put another D16Y5 engine in there.
As for the posting of the ECU and engine codes, will do. I'll try to get em as soon as i can on here.

Also, I didn't know you stayed in Houston RonJ! small world haha.
You woudlnt happen to know where some car meets are located, do you? Me and a few buddies used to go to the one on westheimer and hwy 6 but that one always got raided with police.
If you know where a few good ones might be, I'd appreciate it!

Lol at ronj going to car meets.

Btw putting the same engine back in isnt a swap. Its a replacement. Saying swap is confusing to those that are helping ad seen above.
