This may sound like a stupid question but ive never put a cd player in a newer car before so i dont know. anyways, my gf has a 98 accord lx and she wants to put a cd player in it which so happens that i have one for her but she wont let me and claims that it will screw her car up or something(her cousin told her this) so i was just wondering if it is safe to install a cd player in her car with no problems?

If you dont know what you are doing, dont mess with her car. Its great to have a printed peice of paper in front of you, but without the practical know how, I would say you are bound to f**k something up. Have her dump you then in a fit of emoness kill yourself over her.
The cousin in right dont go trying something on someone elses car.

It's ez. Just read the instructions carefully and take your time. I did my first one a few years ago and I would never pay anyone to do it. And I have installed HU in my gf's parent's car. EZ. No issues and it makes you look good :thumbs up:

harnesses are EASY to wire. just get the propper harness for the car, and splice the same colored wires together

Oh, and don't use these butt connectors:

Use these kind:

It makes for a much cleaner connection, and saved space. Also, once you have the two harnesses spliced together, ziptie all the wires together about half inch below the connectors. It keeps them from moving around too much =)

just dont try and do it on a newer ford and you will be fine. Fords airbag control and the keyless entry is all integrated into the radio now. Also has anyone seen the stock RX8 radio, i dont think that is changeable eather

I dont know what ford you are talking about. I have never ran into a ford that has any sort of data retention. unless its a 2006. and even then I have not heard of one.
Now most 2000 and up chevys will have data retention running from the door chime to fuel lights to airbags.
Honda civics 96-98 will have the keyless and domelight retention in the stereo.
Never have run into a ford that requires data retention, now some of them do have a relocated tuner in the trunk that requires a very long harness to be required to do the job.

And my anger comes from the fact that it seems like everyone thinks they know how to install, and they are some sort of stereo guru cuz they stuck a stereo in an 89 civc once.
Then they end up in my shop with the harness cut off a 2002 chevy silverado with on star asking me what the f**k happened. And when I tell them that they are an idiot and shouldnt be installing, I get to hear the response of I dont know what Im talking about and all their homies do there own installs, and they all come out ok. So I dont know what Im talking about about.

Funny thing is I am a certified installer.
And I dont have a girlfiend, I happen to be happily married. And my wife thinks 90% of people that hack at their own cars are idiots as well.
Especially the ones that think that they can put in their own autostart alarms

ps. If there is a ford with data retention I would like to know what model and year for future reference

Smart woman, that wife of yours :thumbs up

Of course it's the unit that I removed 8 months ago that's at fault when they hack underdash to install an auto start and f**k up their wiring

HEY!! I put a cd player in an 89 civic before lol. Of course, there really arent any worries on a car like that cause you dont have to worry about air bags or keyless entry or anything. My gf cooks....mmmmm....

its not hard, but u gotta have some type of basic knowledge. there are 2 screws under the dash bezel. then u pop out the clock n there is a screw behind there. and u gotta careful pop the whole bezel out and ur half way there. but be careful cuz i get cars all the time with cracked s**t and they want us to do magic. as for ford, i've done '06 and nothing with data retention...

p.s.
snoopy, have u ever had a customer buy that $120 GM harness that keeps the door chimes n s**t??? or do u always use the 70-2003 n wire a new acc wire? just wondering (/end threadjack)

you can use crimp caps. those work the best i think. they were pictured by eran, the white/clear ones. make sure you squeeze them hard enuf so they dont come off.
