Cheap theft deterrent

Hi I'm really paranoid about my car getting stolen - lots of stories from my workplace of peoples cars getting stolen out of the parking lot, broken into, etc. I don't have a lot of money for an alarm system so does anyone know so good inexpensive security measures to take? I take out my head unit every time I leave my car anywhere, and I don't carry anything of value inside my car other than my amplifier and subs, the amp which is bolted on.

Some have suggested disconnecting the battery when leaving your car for a long time. This makes sense to me, but aside from the inconvenience of having to reset the radio what other adverse effects would disconnecting the battery constantly have? I would think this would cause the cars ECU to reset every time which probably isn't a good thing. Any opinions?

Um, whomever said to disconnect your battery is......um..... I can't find the right word. Besides, anyone can just reconnect your battery so they can steal your car. How much money do you want to spend or how much can you afford. Get an autolock at walmart or something. I got mine for ~$50 to back up my alarm. To be honest, if someone wants it bad enough, they're gonna take it no matter what.

What is an autolock? I'm not looking to make my car immune, just something that will stop the petty amateurs from messing with my s**t. I don't think I live in an area that has any big car theives, just stupid teenagers who have too much time on their hands.

It's a locking mechanism that keeps your brake/ clutch from being depressed so you can't drive the car away.

Take out the fuse to your... (s**t, I forget - I think to your ecu)

I ono, but there's a fuse you can pull out, and the car will NOT start without it...

definately. auto lock will keep everyone from stealing your car. you could also install a kill switch somewhere where people would never find it. i;d go with the autolock though, much easier and no one will be able to steal the car

I know people that take their ecu with them everywhere they go. That makes it so unless someone happens to have a spare ecu that works in your car .... it ain't going NOWHERE.

Another thing you can do, is get a detachable steering wheel.....but, on second thought, that's about as much as an alarm, so nm lol

Does anyone else know what fuse I'm talkin about? ....all I know is my boi showed me it one time when i had to leave my car somewhere, I took it out and the car wouldn't crank over :what:

"Nothing beats the hook"

Thief with a wheel lift truck (some tuck away under the bed...looks like a regular truck until he's ready to jack your s**t.)

but wouldn't it piss him off if he got to his "shop" and the ECU was gone?

they could still steal ur car if they wanted even with autolock... they can just cut the pedal off. Plus u dont really need the clutch...u could push start the car and just match the gears when driving so u can shift.

but yeah, autolock is a good deterent imo. i have my own ;)

is there a fuse where the positive cable from the battery terminal goes into? that'd be where i'd guess the fuse would be....iono...not too familiar with exactly all the fuses...

i just bought a "pedal Jack" same concept as the autolock except that it locks both the clutch and brake. so far it has been really easy to put in and out, and is very solid. cost 40 bucks. I think it'll keep some rookie kids away...i'm saving for an alarm w/ starter kill too...

It's a fuse from the actual fuse box, under the hood...

tape and number your spark plug wires, and remove them when you leave the car....

nobody brings extra spark plug wires bro....... unless they have a flatbed your car is safe

there's multiple fuses that will stop that

there's a fuse for the ecu, there's a fuse for the ignition, there's a fuse for your fuel pump..... taking any number of fuses out will prevent your car from running, but then again... all someone has to do is put a fuse or piece of metal to bridge the connection and they're off and running

put a pillow on your seat with razor blades under it. They'll think your short sit down and they're stuck/ Or take hose disposable lades glue em to velcro and put the other strip of velcro under your door handle. When you leave put the blades under the hadl thnew peel em off ehwn yuo get back in. Or buy a wheel lock for 20 at wallmart.
