Cheap Things to do to your 96-00 Civic

dunno if any of em have been mentioned...
-energy suspension shifter booshings
-type r s**t boot + knob
-paint interior trim pieces
-remove intake resonator (foam filter > k&n. k&n filter itself doesn't trap dust, the oil does. for the lazy ones who wouldn't clean and oil their filter...use oem foam)
-armorall every inch of plastic inside except steering wheel, trim around center console (if its still factory black...where climate controls are, stereo, vents, etc)
-paint side skirts flat "whatever color ur car is" i.e. flat black
-keep ur wheel covers clean. trust me....from a distance, it makes a huge diff when ur wheel covers are sparkling compared to being covered in brake dust
-hide wires inside engine bay. clean engine = teh sh!t
-led vtec indicator. all it takes is an led, and 2 wires (i believe). led will light up when vtec engages
-wax n buff out tiny exterior scratches
-paint calipers
-type r grill off ebay
-go to walmart and buy $25 foglights. takes less than 30 mins to install. i used black zip ties since i got a black civic. can't see em. helps night driving TONS
-take out everything in ur trunk to reduce weight
-paint windshield wipers
-use synthetic oil instead of regular crap
-fuel injector cleaner every 2-3k miles
-use seafoam in engine
-clean ur brake components. take a basic auto class and ull learn. clean rotors, pads, brackets holding pads, lube up the 2 bolts that engage ur brakes (forget the names), etc.
-clean engine bay
-this really isn't a mod but for those that use the highway an excessive amount, use rain-x. saves ur windshield wipers a tiny bit
-tigthen throttle body cable to reduce throttle response lag (not too tight to increase idle)
-black housing ctr style headlights

all i can think of for now...

shouldnt cost more than 5 bucks and will get you the value of your car. this doesnt apply if u have a swapped motor, or an em1

seriously though, get sidemarkers, and shampoo the interior, then if your car still smells like a giant ass, do what i suggested first.

Does it hurt to start using synthetic oil if you already used regular oil on your engine?

Once again, no idea how to tighten the throttle body cable.

yo i tried to tighten the throttle cable and i didnt notice that i pulled the wire off its lil track lol the eng jus kept revvin like to 2500 at idle so i shut it off not noticing for two days! and of course i didnt drive the car. lol

haha i didnt, i just left it as it was. i didnt want to risk effin anything up lol. but i think it would be cool to have a write up done on this. heres one i dont think anyone has said yet, if you ride stockies like i do, paint the honda h red. im doing mine soon. and after that im gonna paint my rims flat black w/ red H!!! gonna look sick

tye: no it doesn't hurt your engine to use synthetic if u previously used regular 5w-30 or whatever oil u used. just never mix oil....like 5w with 10w. its not terrible for the car if u do it once but it's not better than when u dont mix so just dont mix oils.

yeah i heard the same thing that if you run synthetic then try to run regular it will leak ...or vica versa

amej of course i noticed the idle risse but when i couldnt get it to go down i cut the car off and left it alone. i found out what it was to days later when i had time to go back and check it lol

nice job sir, ive been lookin for how to do this cuz the factory cardboard is all wet and moldy. im gonna take it out along with my spare and carpet the whole trunk. that way it looks cleaner.

Armor-all has to be cleaned off of the interior afterwards. It leaves a residue. I don't use Armor-all. It makes the interior end up looking faded after consistant use (years I mean). It's just fine to use plain water and a cotton cloth. Dusting doesn't hurt either.

Just get in your car with a bucket of water and a washcloth. Scrub every plastic piece in there. Remove grit in tight areas with an old toothbrush. Don't forget the seatbelt clips and the shiftknob. The plastic pieces above your driver door often is very dirty from years of touching by you or the previous owner. Just try to wash ALL the hard surfaces in the car. Be careful with the toothbrush around delicate screens like CD player screens though! It will scratch just like the nylon bristles will scratch paint!

Oh, and the cupholders often get messy in most people's cars too.

As far as painting your sideskirts, I'd vote that flat does not look very nice on most cars. Just get them properly painted or if you have a car with matching paint, Si skirts might be the cheap way for you.

amelia dont confuse the man lol. i removed the resonator and it sounds alot louder just less responsive.its not like when it had the resonator. im gonna keep it off cuz im gettin the sri soon anyways but you kno. oh and to my great amusementi upgraded the headlights from rice lights to silverstars! high priced rice lights lol
