Hi I'm new to the site and I've done a search for some problems thread but was not able to find one.

I'm planning on buying a 6th maybe a 5th gen. I'm not new to the fact that Civics are very reliable. I was wondering if some of you 6th gen people could give write a small list of the things that had to be fixed lately on your cars or if you guys are aware of any trouble spots on the Civics to look out for when I go to buy one.

well whenver you buy a car you always change the timing belt, its not a problem but just a thing you do. but as far as problems, i havent had to fix anything at all, honestly. buy a 6th gen they look better.

Yeah seeying as the Civics have mostly interferance engines breaking the belt will bust the engine.

My only problem with my 6th Gen Civic was the window. I have a DX so that means arm-power, but the damn window kept running out of track. I fixed the driverside then the passengerside went. My buddy has a 7th gen EX and the same thing happend to his powerwindows. Others than that not a damn thing is wrong with this car.

How many hours of labour would it be to change the timming belt on a civic? Is that something that's easy to get at on those engines?

The way I've been tought is to change your timming belt every say 100,000 km or 62,000 mi. Your timming belt as it would imply times your engine. Civics have interferance engines which means there is very little clearance all mostly because honda wants to make them efficient and with pretty high compression. If you let your car run on an old timming belt and it breaks your pistons bang around in there and biggity bang you need a new engine. That's why you have to change it regularly even if the belt looks like it's in good shape.
