idk
some of my friends have gotten in accidents and the cops/paramedics said if they would have been wearing them they would have died, so i guess it just depends.

i always wear my seatbelt anyways, especially after watchin all those accident videos in drivers ed
this is a VERY VERY rare occurance.

98% of the time, a seat belt will save your life. Its saved mine.

My routine.

Start car
Pull out of the garage
Phone/cigs in door pocket
Put my Harness on
Close garage
(dont let my car idle in the garage kuz no cat stinks up the house :p )
I dont go anywhere without my car idling for at least a few seconds (the time it takes me to put on my harness)... i know it doesnt need to idle for minutes on end... but a few seconds is good to make sure oil reaches the head/etc. etc.

I still wear my regular seat belt on the street. I put in my harness when I got a bucket seat, and I've since figured out that I don't even need the harness. The seat makes all the difference. So I stopped wearing the harness at all, even on the autox track.

Real seats do make all of the difference, the harness is mainly there to KEEP you there if something goes wrong.

On the street, i wear my harness all the time (as its more comfortable than the OE belt with how my seats are setup) but i relax the fit on the shoulders (but not the lap belt) so i have some movement and can do thinks like reach smokes/phone/stereo, etc. etc. if NEEDED.

Only comment I've gotten on mine from an officer was when I rolled my 240SX. She said it probably saved my life.

Why are we the suckers? Because we wear our seatbelts? Wait till you get into a accident w/out your seatbelt on....then we'll see who the real sucker is.

oh yeah in regards to the harness, as long as you match them up to a good seat you should be doink ok. I believe they are mainly there to keep you from shifting while taking hard corners during RACING. If you ever notice the guys on the Japanese race vids all you see them move is their arms cuz they are strapped in so tight. I actually read somewhere where it said that you were supposed to inhale and then tightend them up so that when you exhaled they were nice and snug and gave you just enough give to breath.

You could always check the local dmv about laws with seat belts. My friends never had problems here in Elk Grove, CA and cops here are the biggest *icks when it comes to modified imports.
