Hey club civic members...as u noe im new to the forum but i have spent alot of time researching on club civic for my d16y7 eagle/vitara build. Ok now on to the problem...i recently built a d16y7 with eagle rods and vitara pistons and I got it running about 2 sundays ago...well as i was driving from the garage to my house the whole car just died...no sputter or anything but my cd player was still playing...i pulled the plugs and noticed they were shot so i replaced them and still no start...then I checked for fuel to the rail...gets fuel...then i checked for spark...no spark...so i ordered and ICM and a ignition coil they arrived today im just waitin on my buddy to come jump me off due to a dead battery...does anybody have any insight for me cuz if the ICM and ignition coil doesnt work then im all out of options for now

thanks in advance for your help

damn sorry to hear that. I hope u can get it back up and running. Are all ur connections properly connected like the sensor for the distributor or something.??

have you checked to see if u are throwing any codes. I had a similar issue and it was the dizzy. i had no spark and it was throwing a TDC code. Swapped it out and fired right up.

yea...its not throwing any codes but the battery went dead so that might be y its not...i have a pic of the main relay i think that might be where my problem is...imma post it up in just a few minutes

You can replace the main relay but I dont suspect it is the issue. If you put yours back in (when your battery is up to par) You should hear 3 clicks after you turn the key. If you hear this the main relay did most of its startup duty which is mostly fuel which you already stated you had. I really think you need to check the dizzy. Everything about what you are doing/describing reminds me of my past issues.

Make sure all of your connections to the harness are secure. Particularly the connections at the strut towers (if your not tucked)

Check your grounds as well. Tranny, Engine, Battery. No spark is all electrical no reason to tear up the engine.

i appreciate the help....i went back and checked everything and got the ecu to throw me a code and its a code 8 with the check engine light which is the tdc sensor...im thinking its the 1 in the dizzy but im not sure...how would i go about trying to change the sensor myself cuz i already changed the i.c and the ICM in the dizzy...

thanks in advance

You have to change the dizzy out completely. I wouldn't keep a old dizzy unless I was just changing the cap. Do it right the first time and if in the worst case scenario (which I am almost positive) that it is not your dizzy. You can take the new one back. If you have a u pull yard close to you...I would go get an OEM dizzy.

well i changed the dizzy and the CEL went out from a MIL code 8 TDC sensor...but still no start...more info on what happened to the car...i was goin down 85 and the first engine completely exploded then i built another y7 block and put the head on from the motor that blew...now it sounds like i dont have compression so wud mean either the valves or rings correct?

When you built the engine did you align the timing marks and ensure TDC? When you changed out the dizzy did you get spark? I had a built engine that skipped time from a bad belt, but it that occasion I had spark/fuel/etc. By using the word exploded...You could have incurred some valvetrain damage...

same thing happened to my si, we figured its something with the timing belt since my tensioner was loose and/or one of the pulleys broke since its not turning my cams.i didnt think i was getting a spark the first thing i went to was my distributor. waste of 260 bucks. since they dont spin the distributor wont spark, and thats the power issue. im pretty sure its something with your timing belt if our problems are similar.
