Yeah thats how I felt, I ended up watching a lot of videos and reading a lot of reviews and finally settled on a greddy evo2. Heres a video of my car with intake, header, and evo2 exhaust.

It's kind of similiar to the sound you have as it mainly just amplifies the engine noise and doesn't have any ricey sound. Maybe try looking into that.

It's not loud at all...you can't even really hear it in that vid, it's there but past vtec the engine overpowers it.
