DDM Tuning HID bulbs not extending far enough into headlights

me and my friend just installed my 8000k 35w ddm tuning HID bulbs and ran into an issue.

The bulbs don't extend far enough into the headlight housing for it to shine as bright or as much as it should.

I'll try describing the situation the best I can.

The stock bulbs are detachable while the ddm tuning bulbs come with wires (prongs). So it's not as simple as plugging the bulb into the rubber holding piece and then connecting the ballast to the back end then snugging the whole rubber casing that holds the bulb into the housing of the headlight.

The first issue I ran into was how are the hid bulbs going to stay in place because like i said before the stock bulbs just fit snug into the hole of the rubber piece. The bottom of the ddm tuning bulbs didn't fill up enough area to fit securely in the hole of the rubber piece. So the only way we were to able to get a tight secure fit was to cut 3 slits into the rubber piece and hook in the 3 little tabs that the bottom plastic piece has that are normally supposed to fit perfect into the grooves in the headlight housing.

After doing our technique on getting the lights to sit stiff and secure, we put the whole bulb into the housing of the headlight..........to soon realize that because we added slits to the rubber holding piece and tucked in the plastic tabs into it that it ended up taking away about a quater of an inch worth of reach from the bulb going into the housing of the headlight. Hence not illuminating to its fullest potential.

My other thought was super gluing the plastic base of the HIDS to the interior portion of the headlight housing so it would be secured in place and reached out far enough into the headlight housing.

hopefully that made sense. for those of you familiar with headlights it should.

Thanks club civic!

Bulbs go into the headlight housing not the rubber boot. They are held in by a clip and should sit flush with the housing. The boot is just for keeping moisture out, NOT for mounting the bulb.

thanks, are you talking about the clips as in those paper clip looking things that were held in by a screw? cause i had to remove those to get the bulb in.

do you kno where i can buy those rubber boot pieces? the slits aren't fully cut through, its like a slight slit just enough for the tabs. so i dont think i'd run into problems with moisture getting in. but incase do you kno where i could buy a pair?

once the bulb is in there correctly the metal paper clip thing should be able to hold the bulb in just fine because the back of the bulb should clear it

The bulb should sit on the base of the bulb housing in the headlight. That clip should never have to be removed from the screw that holds it on there to get the bulb to fit in the first place.

Why not just use the correct bulbs or stop cheaping out and do a proper HID retrofit?

Then again, from all of your prior posts, maybe "modifying" cars isn't your thing.

Yes. You shouldn't have had to remove them. You are doing something wrong, these bulbs were not meant for your housings, or they are cheap junk that doesn't fit right.

Honda? Don't know if they are even sold separate. Perhaps eBay?

the clip is impossible to fit due to its bent shape. anyone else have any ideas?
No need to keep bumping. Someone will answer if they have one. If not...

It isn't impossible. You are doing something wrong or they are cheap crap that doesn't fit. The clip IS what holds the bulb in place.

LOL poor birdies :( btw random thought. but whats the chances of condensation or moisture leaking into your headlights? i had to ghetto fab my rubber boots since the ddm hid bulbs don't plug flush with the rubber boot. so theirs a pretty decent airway from the bulb to the outside. So i just electrical taped the hell out of the area. hope that works......

Please do a retrofit. You're only endangering everyone around you. Civic headlights are not designed to properly use HID bulbs.

Electrical tape isn't going to do the trick. You ARE going to get moisture in.

yeah i'll come across that in the future. I've just been impatient and wanted the looks for a cheap price.

What do u think i should use to make sure no moisture gets into the headlights?

I know what you mean. I've been in your shoes. Years ago, I used to rock HID's without a retrofit too.

Did you have moisture problems before adding HID's? If not, do your best to get that boot to seal tight. If you did, I'd recommend opening up and re-sealing your headlights with more butyl rubber (can be purchased from theretrofitsource.com).
