paint stripper will remove any residues, oils, possible clear finishes that have been applied to it.

It would be a good idea to do so lol

the only thing is that the aircraft stripper tends to make this weird corrosion type thing if you put to much to the aluminum

for example, where the paint had chipped off (the original black) had more corrosion on it, after the stripper, then the rest did so be careful, you don't want to make anymore work for yourself than you have to

so basically what i'm saying is that the stripper is good at getting the old paint off but if it's applied straight to the aluminum cover then your going to be sanding more

i would just say use the paint thinner and soap/water if you have the non painted valve cover

why the paint thinner?
cause its not as strong as the aircraft stripper but will still clean the aluminum

Wouldn't just cleaning the valve cover off with some soap and then sanding it be enough?

if you have good soap i guess but i've always seen paint thinner as a good degreaser thats not to strong, just gets all the stuff that soap and water can't

i really don't care how people do it i just know what works for me

Ok thanks man, I was just wondering if it was necessary, not saying you're doing something bad.
