Dpfi removing metal plate questions!?

Ok guys my 89 civic dx hatch is my daily but I wondering cause I've heard of people removing the plate in the the dpfi box. I heard it restricts air flow ppl say 5hp gain I did it an when I first push it feels quicker .Wondering is there any cons to this I don't wana end spending money cuz something broke or is nt working correlty

I've heard that you might a little worse gas mileage, but that's really about it.
