We have ALL seen the absolutely rediculous electric supercharger type things sold by companys like E-ram... they go for some rediculous amounts (as much as 500 bucks!!) Additionally, they look pieces of s**t, and i think the whole concept pretty much blows ass..... Here is a pic of the e-ram...

BUT!!!
Today i was looking through a boating catalog that came to our house called "Overton's" and look what I stumbled accross.. (sorry if this has been asked before)

Looks alot different then those e-ram shits.. I wonder if this would be worth dicking around with?!?
Here is the link....

Why waste money on E-Turbos when you could use that money and just build a kit.

Ive looked into this stuff rather extensivly, and have come to the conclusion that the e-ram will produce power... prob a noticable difference, but is it worth $300? Prob not. There are alot of other mods you could do for that price, and be alot better off.
But If your boat blower is cheap enough, and your bored... I'd say hell yeah. Go for it. Be careful there are no parts that could break off, and get sucked down your intake. Mabye put a small screen or cloth after motor.
Also there is a vid floating around where a dude plugged a leaf blower up on a dyno, and gained like 10 horsies. On a stock civic...

so called electronic "turbos" do not work, because they arent turbos. they are fans. fans are great for moving air around. fans however CANNOT PRESSURIZE air, meaning they do exactly zero good. in fact, mostly they are restrictions to incoming intake air and you lose hp. DO NOT install one on your car, it wont do anything good.

a stock engine would handle atleast 7 psi max...and you would feel the boost coming in just about ok. i doubt those electric blowers would produce that much psi to boost the engine.

first off there is what handlebar said then you got to realize that an engine creats a suction the eletric blower would have to be able to first : blow air faster than the car could suck and two (like handlebar said) be able to compress that air in the cylinder, so while it sounds cool it just wont work.

it'll probably cause fod (foreign object debris) in your engine too when those fan blades brake off...

it wont produce much psi if any. theres no turbines in that thing to compress any gasses. and furthermore the things fan blades are made of plastic, that should be a clear sign that it cant handle much.

I bet a leaf blower might be able to produce minute results like 1-3 hp max. Some have terminal velocities of over 200mph. Depends on the size and mods of the motor too. On a larger moded motor that sucks in alot of air it will just be blocking airflow.

Oh you can create boost with an electric motor. That's not the problem. The problem is powering a motor that can create boost. Some guy has like three electric motors powering a half of a turbo. But he has to carry around 3 or 4 car batteries in the trunk. That's like an extra 120lbs or so for a few seconds of low boost. So why doesn't he just get a higher output alternator? The parasitic loss from an alternator with that kind of output would be at least equal to if not greater than that of a supercharger.

It can be done. The negatives of doing so far outweigh any gains. You might as well get some DC motors and hook them up to direct drive your undriven wheels if you are going to drag around extra batteries.
