Testing out an old film slr lens i found layin around the house!

its a 35-80mm EF lens, so on my 1.6x crop sensor its equivalent to a 56-128mm EF-S lens. woot!!!

so now its perfect! i have my 18-55mm EF-S kit lens and my EF lens that acts as a 56-128mm EF-S lens.

Its cool having that little extra amount of zoom to play with, and the bokeh is cool too!


the pictures are a bit soft compared to my EF-S kit lens but i can always sharpen them up in photoshop

err somethings not adding up with this whole EF lens on my XTi thing.

the lens says 35-80mm, so i multiplied that by my crop factor of 1.6x, and it should appear as a 56-128mm lens, but when i set this one to 35mm (labled on the lens), it looks identical to my XTi kit lens at 35mm.

so i'm just gonna stop thinking about multiplying crop factor and all that and just say i have a 35-80mm lens lol.

ef-s is just enhanced for digital so your 18-55mm is still multiplied by the 1.6 factor. the 35 on both lenses should be exactly the same field of view.

oh. meh i'm just gonna stop thinking so much into it and just go by the standard.

the old slr lens does alright. pictures are a little soft but sharpen right up in lightroom.
the depth of field gets really shallow at 80mm and F/5.6 as seen in that pic. kinda wish the whole thing was in focus.

No way! That picture is awesome. Love the foreground/background bokeh, I wish I knew how to control or create bokeh... It sorta just happens at times.

haha. i just set the lens to 80mm (zoomed all the way in), and to the lowest aperture at that focal length (F/5.6) and it was kind of a blind shot lol.
