Im just curious...so if there were black people working behind the counter at autozone, what would you have said to them?

Not the ones I've been to... I mean, you always have to have the reciept too and they don't keep it in the computer even. Advance Auto Parts... you can go in there and tell them you bought it there, doesn't matter what it is as long as they sell it. They'll take it back and refund you. You don't need a receipt, you don't need ot be kept as a record in the computer (which is normally only done with higher priced parts and warranty parts).

I used to work for Autozone... they code read for free all the time. Not only that, but why did they only have two people on staff? That RARELY happens and isn't suppoesd to happen anyway.

Not just that, but the way he acted toward mavrick could be grounds for punishment from the company. Mavrick, if I were you I'd mention it to the manager. If it was the manager, you might want to call up headquarters and mention the associate name along with what store they work in.

So does Autozone. I don't know of any autoparts store that doesn't. I've worked at both Autozone and Advance Auto Parts. I found Advance to be a MUCH better company. both to work for and to be a customer of. Advance aslo has the policy of keeping ASE certified associates on staff almost at all hours. =)

I've met mavrick before, and though we definately don't share common views on a lot, he's a pretty reasonable guy. I highly doubt that he is truly racist against any group of people. In fact Jason tells me he believes mavrick might be half Mexican/Latin! I can't comment on that honestly though because I'm horrible at telling race. I describe people as "oh, he was black/tannish/very pale." I'm crappy at telling race, always have been. I remember he was more tan than I am. :lol:

I can understand how he was set off though. Here's how it woudl have goen at my previous store (Advance):

Customer: Well (autoparts store) is gay!

My boss: That's nice to hear sir. (with a sarcastic grin)

I miss my old boss... Darrell at the Dover, DE Advance Auto Parts. I think he left now though. Boo. Best boss I ever had.

I'm not saying it's a good idea to say that type of thing to a person on either side really, but it showed unprofessional actions by the employee... all it made mavrick out to be is maybe a bit of an a*****e. :what: :lol: Lots of people go a little overboard when treated like that. It doesn't mean that you're sexist if you call the waitress a b***h though. But if the waitress calls you a b***h back, she needs to be reprimanded because her job is to serve you with a smile, not to get into a fight with you (unless you try to rape her or something dumb). If there is a problem the employee needs to get the supervisor. The supervisor shoudl be abel to take care of the situation in the most professional way possible.

meh... they let me use theirs without having to put a downpayment on anything. no assistant even came out to help me

I used to manage a parts store.

When someone wanted to rent a tool for like 5 minutes? f**k all that paperwork and keying in data. Take their cash or credit card and paper clip it to their ID. Stick it under my drawer.

They bring the tool back, I've got zero to process.
They don't? I run their card and fill out the rental log with the info from their card.

I Don't have time to be f**king around with a $170 in then $170 right back out transaction.

I was even more lax with my employees. I mean you wanna screw up your $75.00 JNCOs or whatever working here that's cool. As long as your working.

Hats other than O'reilly were verboten but I didn't bother enforcing a rule that I didn't obey myself

If you bought wipers, and asked them to put them on, they'd do it. Regardless of how many "associates" are in the store. As long as there aren't waiting customers, it is policy to do this. Check codes, test charging systems, change batteries, wipers, etc..

You were wrong by lashing back, or even saying Autozone sucks out loud.. I know how you feel, but is this case, the outcome has both parties in the wrong..

:werd: That guy gave you the run around. The rule is there has to be ONE employee in the store at all times. I work at Autozone, we do CEL checks all the time. That guy should have helped you. Report it.
