4k sounds like a mild N/A b-series build range. That would be my plans if I was u.

sell the car and by an si if you want something civic and faster or some other kind of car. like i said your best bet is b16 or b18. id do b16 since its not a hard swap at all its cheap for the most part and makes a dd fun. simple bolt-ons and all would hold you over for a while. something im starting to save for and search for is a supercharger for my d16. all i want is a lil more power and a red line of 8k and im golden. i just have to fine a supercharger with everything in decent shape and bam its mine. if you dont have a lot of miles on your car but it sounds like you do if its ur dd but you cud turbo it even tho u dont want to and it still be reliable. 6-8psi thats all and you at b series hp range. all up to what you want to do we cant tell you anything but our opions.

Wow thanks everyone for your input. I think ill go for the b16 then since it makes the most financial sense...but one day should i win the lottery - and still for some reason only want a civic - the f20b is going in for sure XD.

do not buy a b16, they suck. go b18b1 or b18c1.

^^I would take a b16 over a b1. Depends on what you want. If you could find a cheap enough b1 you could boost it for the same price as a b16 or b18c1.

You may also want to check out TPR Cincy and see what they have. Shop with a great reputation in the area and known for its Honda builds

I would with 4k go with a nice b18c then save for boost. Or get a b18b and rebuild it before swapping it in.

why?

for the little more horsepower but lack of torque and displacement? torque makes a car go fast, not hp. hp is top end potential

Because neither a stock b16 or a stock b1 is "fast". And the b16 tricks you into thinking its faster because its rev happy and has vtec. I guess its more of the mind game for me.
