In a post on its site today, AUTOCAR UK says:

Honda is set to provide its CR-Z with an all-new, turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine option as part of plans to broaden the compact coupé’s appeal in key world markets, including the UK.

Currently available with just the one engine option — a hybrid that mates a 112bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 14bhp electric motor — the CR-Z is earmarked to receive an all-new turbocharged 1.6-litre powerplant that is currently undergoing development at Honda’s Tochigi R&D centre.

AUTOCAR UK claims the new engine uses Honda's "VTEC-i", will likely come in 160hp and 200hp trims, and is also destined for future Civic, Jazz, and Accord models.

So if the CRZ came factory turbocharged would that make it more appealing to you guys? I hope for Hondas sake that they do release this. It seems that about every car company is turboing their cars. I know alot of people are not fond of the CRZ but i think it has massive potential.

I f**kin' love the CRZ. If it comes turbo (not that I will be able to afford one) that will be awesome!

Turbo hybrid? Or regular turbo gas? Turbo gas would be hot.

It would only be appealing if they changed the price point to an affordable one. The current CRZ is so overpriced compared to say....the Civic Si. The CRZ lacks horsepower, and does not get good enough gas mileage to make up for it. If the turbo version was the same price as the current model, then it MIGHT be interesting. And a turbo isn't s**t unless it is backed up by a good engine. A factory turbo on the current CRZ engine will put out.....I'm predicting 180hp. That is NOT impressive by any means when the Si puts out 200hp. Drop a K20 in the CRZ, turbo it, and THEN I will be impressed.

If you open the link it says it will be offered in trims of 160hp and 200hp.

"AUTOCAR UK claims the new engine uses Honda's "VTEC-i", will likely come in 160hp and 200hp trims, and is also destined for future Civic, Jazz, and Accord models."

So, although its very similar hp to the civic SI. It's no boosted k20...but still nice nonetheless.

even if it came with a factory turbo in the states you know the first thing people will be doing is motor swaps to a bigger k series... k23 or some s**t lol

I didn't even click the link, I was going off what the OP said. But seriously, what's better.......200hp turbo, or 200hp stock N/A? I will take 200hp stock N/A EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Dumbest thing I've heard today. NA Honda means NO TORQUE.

Also the CRZ is 2,5XXlbs. The Civic Si is 2,900lbs.

Okay so if the current base CRZ EX starts out at $20,760, and Honda charges an extra $2k for the satellite linked model, then I think it's safe to say the turbo model will be around ~$24,000.......And I think that is generous since there will be TWO turbo models. But let's say the 200hp model costs ~$24,000. If someone were a Honda lover, with $24k they could EASILY build a car that far exceeds 200hp. Even buying a slightly used 8th gen Si and slapping a turbo on that car would net more horsepower and torque than the CRZ. The CRZ is underpowered and overpriced. No thanks.

my thoughts exactly. it does have some fun bells and whistles but $21k+ for a little hatchback honda is way too much. maybe if they had a full electric option for $21k i would buy one as a daily driver considering how much $$$ it would save on gas :what:

Exactly. The gas mileage is nothing spectacular as well. I mean I hate to say it, but most Honda's are like this when they are new. Don't get me wrong, I like my Honda as a daily driver, and will likely run it into the ground. But it is nothing special. It's comfortable, and gets decent gas mileage. If I can get that from my 7 year old Honda, why spend four times as much for 7 less horsepower and 4 extra MPGs?

This isn't a case of NEW car versus OLD car. Compare new to new. Of course you can build an older car to be faster.I don't know any car manufacturer that says "Well people can buy a used car and modify it to be fast so we better engineer this car to be faster than everything we've ever made that can possibly done at this price point."

Buy an old 5.0 Mustang and slap a turbo on that. There. Faster.

Lots of hate for the CRZ and I'm betting most people haven't even driven one.

I know a 5.0 would be faster, but I kept it in the same brand. That's why I said if someone was a Honda lover. s**t you could buy a one year old, extremely low mileage Si for $17k in my area. That's "new" enough, and with $7k left you could build the engine left. I am comparing very similar cars here.

And why would I test drive one? I have no interest in getting one. It weighs like 100 pounds less than my car, has 7 less horsepower, and gets 4 more MPGs.....these are extremely minimal differences. The incentive to spend four times as much as my car is worth is just NOT there when I am essentially getting a car that the only upside is it reads "0" on the odometer.
