Well it's that time of the year again to put the toys away. We got our first snowfall here in New England on Saturday (light flurries) so I knew it was time to give it up. But before I did I just had to take some pics

Anyway, I'm sure you guys are tired of my car by now but what can I say? I'm a whore.

That's all folks:

Well, that'll be it for a while as it's doubtful this car will even get re-registered in the spring as I need to concentrate on Gertrude. Thanks for looking.

It doesn't hurt the car if you prep it correctly. I've stored this car every winter for the last 3 years w/ no issues. I give it a good cleaning inside and out and take some percautions and it's always good to go come spring time. Never a single problem. It does take some prep work though. I am going back again tonight to put the car up on jack stands so that I won't get flat spots on the tires and she'll be all set.

Gertrude is my Grand National for the person that asked.

First and foremost is clean the hell out of the car. Moisture and grime are the enemy when storing a car. When I say clean I mean in, out, under, over, everything (took me a whole weekend). Remove the wheels and clean in the wheelswells, give the engine bay a good douching, put the car up on jacks and clean the under carriage. Vacuum the interior real well etc. Top off all the fluids and put fuel stabilizer in the gas tank. Spread moth balls in the interior (keeps rodents awat). Plug up yor exhaust (again keeps rodents/critters from calling your muffler home). Put the car up on jacks (no flat spots on your tires). Remove your plugs and drop a little oil in each cylinder (before reinstalling the plugs) keeps the cylinder walls lubed. Remove your battery and put on a trickle charger. Spread a few dryer sheets in the interior (absorbs odors).

When I get home I'll forward you a link you can follow step by step.

well for a more permante sleep its good to remove the battery and drain all the fluids, but to put up for the winter remove the battery put on jack stands and add a fuel stabalizer and that should cover it.

good call, I just recently was told that even though your car might be off, the car's computers are always draining the battery!

if the car is gonna be stored for over 2 years it's best to drain every ounce of fuel from the car

I did list battery removal above, but the draining of the fluids part I have to disagree w/you on. But that's a debate for another day. The key word is moisture and condensation. If you drain the gas then moisture will build up in the gas tank and that's bad news. It's easier to drain bad fuel then it is to replace a rotted gas tank (trust me on this as I'm replacing the tank on Gertrude right now).

Again, SeaFoam is your friend.

Fog it with Deep Creep (seafoam aerosol)
Stabilize the fuel with SeaFoam

Well it's all a moot point b/c

1) I'm only stoing it for a year and a half at the most.
2) I'll be going to start her up in the spring time and taking her for a quick spin once in a while just to get the oil moving, just won't be registered ;)

This wasn't intended to be a "how to" on how to store your car, I was just passing along some tips. Like I said this isn't the first time I've done this and I've never had a problem. There are just alot of myths and opinions when it comes to this type of thing but alot of people just don't know the facts or have any experience so they rely on alot of mis-information (not that anyone here is passing along errant info).
