No, you are right. Traditionally, there are 5 shooters, with 4 shots and 1 blank. The blank is used for a couple reasons. It steadies their aim, and it helps them cope with the situation afterwards because they think they might have had the blank. They are also corrections officers who volunteer for the job.

I thought it was 4 blanks and 1 shot.

In Utah, the firing squad consisted of five volunteer police officers from the county in which the conviction of the offender took place.

Saddam was actually hung in his country. We couldnt put him on trial here because he really didnt commit any crimes here.

I was under the impression that its actually cheaper to house an inmate for life than it was to do lethal injection. Might vary state to state, but thats what I've heard???

How is it cheaper to house an inmate for life than to lethal inject? Housing an inmate costs around 30-45K a year.

i dunno. dont ask me i didnt figure lethal injection would only cost 86 dollars either....

EDIT: It may be more money, after all of the free counsel for defense, for appeals, maximum security on a separate death row wing. Who knows... I don't

i do know that the 30-40k mark is what it does cost per year per inmate. i once heard it costs $50k for lethal injection once all is said and done... probably from all the legal things and stuff you speak of.

Who does the shooting may vary between state to state. Its normally volunteer corrections officers from a different prison. They dont want to have corrections officers shooting people they may know.

And having 4 blanks and 1 bullet just wouldnt be "humane" by their terms. From 20 feet away, yea you can hit the center of the chest.......but its not guaranteed to hit the heart. With 4 live rounds, there is a much higher chance that the heart will be struck.

Personally, for what some of these guys did, I think all 5 shooters should have a live round, and he gets one in each limb and then one in the stomach. That might deter crime a little bit. Not. It would serve the criminal right though.

I think we really need to bring back stuff like the colosseum. Inmates fight to the death and people pay to watch
