Actually guys they're 16x7 lol, and they're just not my style wheels, I'm gonna get volks for next spring. And if your interested in the wheels i'd sell them for 300 OTD. But anyways, idk what to do with my d16.. I kinda want to keep it, dress it up, and clean up the engine bay.. but its so damn slow! Lol. I know absolutely nothing about turbo's but am starting to lean towards it for some gain in acceleration. Is it worth it? Will it basically destroy my motor and or y8 if I run it? Will there even be a noticable increase in power? Hard to install? (For a 17 year old on a novice mechanic level?)

I say look into vitara builds and then when you get a trust fund money go with that or a b20 swap in it.

i'm noticing that the b20 is much cheaper than it's 16 and 18 counterparts.. less power? and would a b20 be a fairly simple first swap?

Nice, west Michigan reprazent :D

If you don't know what you're doing none of them are "fairly simple" lol

B20 is a CRV motor and more power, that's why. Parts can be pricier sometimes though.

haha Kz00.. Dejavu.. :thumbs up and i know my basic mechanics, most of its bolt up, correct? (and i have a friend willing to help who knows his motors, just not honda motors..) so is there anything unique to a honda motor? and a b20 has MORE power there for costing LESS? :?: haha sorry for hurling out so many questions, i'm just a very curious kid. :P

Nah, Hondas are pretty easy to work on, they're really simple and that's why everyone messes with them. And no, a B20 doesn't have more power. B16 = 160hp/110tq, B18 = 140-200hp depending on the model 127-147tq depending, B20 = 135/135ish I believe. Thing is you can put a VTEC head on them and make retarded power, but you have to prep the B20 bottom end for it, they're not really designed to take the higher pressures. They're lower-revving motors out of the CR-V, but the torque difference is supposed to be pretty noticeable.

More power than a stock y8 though (130hp/110tq), prolly should mention that lol

thats only like a 15 hp gain, wikipedia says the b20 runs around 145hp, is that even worth spending the money on? cuz the thousand dollars i'd be spending on that could be spent towards getting even more power out of the d16. somehow.. lol. lets put it this way, some idiot tried to run me on 196 today in a durango, i didnt even try to do anything..(im not one of those stupid little rice boys that races everything that pulls up) but after he got a bit up from me i opened up a little bit on the gas, and hit like 100 and couldnt get up to him, lol. thats embarrassing.

The torque difference is bigger than that though. Makes a bigger difference.

And being beaten by a V8 in a four banger is embarrassing? How about he was making about 12mpg at that speed? And don't be dumb, cops LOVE 196, especially east of town. You won't have a license anymore if they pop you at that speed..

well you've got your point about the v8 vs a 4banger, but it was a v6 :ohsnap: haha, and it was on the north side of M6, where cops cant even run radar due to no shoulder/center, but even then i only hit 100 for like 5 seconds flat and backed off. ANYHOO, lol. so you think a b20 swap would really be worth it? 2 cams vs 1 i would think so but does torque matter that much?

Note: meant 131, not 196.. was a long day at work. lol.

well in order for vtech to kick in the conditions have to be right, like i think you have to be above 45mph, and theres other factors that i cant remember from what i read. its actually a pretty complex system lol. i think the fact that i have 2 15s in my trunk makes it a wee bit slower as well, lol.

Yeah i think its just that my vtec or ecu is messed up, yeah those wheels aren't helping

haha they're 15 inch subs, not 15 inch wheels. and i'd take it to your local honda dealership, they should be able to run an ECU diagnostic and they'll be able to tell you right away if somethings not working the way it should.

Nice ride man.

I don't think that VTEC is that complex. I believe it just kicks in at higher RPM's. You might want to check your VTEC solenoid. That car looks pretty nice already. I would get it good coilovers (depending on where you live), I like the black tailights. Then again, I like murdered out cars. Personally I would paint it white or silver just because they never look dirty and aren't too flashy either.

Um....You might want to research when VTEC kicks in, b/c that's not right at all.
