lol, I was on a cruise Thurs-Sunday, so I haven't had the amount of quality time I'd like with my electronic companion. Got on today, but was more focused on gaming than benchmarking  I'll get some number soon and post em up.

On a related note... Super Monday Night Combat is BEAUTIFUL in 3D. Really immersive. Having a great time with that game =)

Furmark Scores:
15 minute test: 3892 @ 82 degrees C
60 second test: 2583 @ 66 degrees C

I can't say I have the slightest clue what those scores mean.. or why the drastic difference between the 60s and 15m. lol

The score is just the sum of the frames for the duration of the test. What settings did you use? Changing the resolution, and post-fx, etc will change the final score. Also, what version of furmark? There's drastic performance differences between the different versions.

The point behind the score is so you can make changes to your graphics configuration and be able to compare before and after results. The higher the number, the better the performance.

The score isn't the number of frames.. because I rendered well over 30,000 frames on the 15 minute test...
Resolution was 1080p. I used the system settings for the "burn in test".. and I used the most recent version of furmark.

I'm not sure exactly how the 15 minute burn-in benchmark is calculated, but the 60 second benchmark is definitely the total frame rate. The 15 minute test must factor in something else, like minimum and maximum rates, or temperatures.

In the process of overclocking. Running stable at 4.8GHz (Stock is 3.3GHz), temps maxing out at about 78C on the hottest core when running OCCT. I'm now going to gradually lower the voltage to see how low I can go while maintaining stability :D

EDIT: Lowered the voltage a bit. Max temp on the hottest core is at 73C now (but seems to stay around 68/69 most of the time). Down 5 degrees and running stable. Going to keep pushing it down to see how cool I can get it.

Done. Made it down to 1.34V from 1.4V

Hey not bad at all. Are you keeping it at 4.8 daily?

^^My chip has intel speedstep (seems to be the VTEC of processors.. lol), so it only goes up to 4.8 when it needs it. Idles at around 1.6

You can disable the "vtec" in BIOS, which is actually one of the steps for oc'ing the chip. But yea I hear ya. I keep speedstep on but I'm set at a more modest 4.5

Yea, I want to keep it on. I don't want it running at a constant 4.8. It's unnecessary for me. Hell, 4.8 is pretty unnecessary for almost everything. lol. I'm pretty sure this chip can be pushed to 5.0 (still can add some voltage, and temps are still low enough), but I don't have any need for that

I 2500K can go beyond 5ghz. With a clean stable supply of voltage and adequate cooling they can hold 5.4+

^^Really? When I googled, people were impressed at 4.9 for some people. One guy was TRYING to push 5, and finally made it. I didn't see anything above 5. I'm also almost at the voltage limit that people recommend as the max safe voltage for it (1.4V). That would really be my limiting factor. It's still pretty cool, temperature wise, but voltage will restrict.

For a 2500K the average competition clock on air is 5071mhz, 5169mhz on water, 5604mhz on cascade, and 5690mhz on nitrogen. Enthusiasts have pushed this chip to 6ghz

^^What do you mean by "competition clock"? You mean, in some sort of competition where people are pushing it to the absolute limits? I don't plan on doing that.. I don't have the money for a new processor/motherboard if I overvolt this one.

Haha, no I agree completely. I don't intend to fry my rig either just to get my name on a website...

This is what I am referring to:
http://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/core_i5_2500k/

The guys that are struggling to hit 5ghz are just scraping the surface, considering air cooling can take it well beyond 5.0, not to mention the other methods.

Yea, I'm happy with 4.8 with the potential for 5 when I need it.

So next up is your memory. Any plans to adjust timings or clock? What are they currently?

Nah, I'm leaving them alone. 2 x 4GB @ 1600. I don't need any more than that at the moment. I easily could have gone for 16GB for just a little more money, but there's just no reason. When my RAM is insufficient, I'll just pop in two more 4GB sticks and be done with it. Processor was different... to get a 4.8GHz processor would be..... more than a few bucks. lol. So for now, I'm leaving it alone. I'm completely satisfied with my computer, looks great, runs great. All in all, huge success of a project =)
