Have they been patched with body filler? You can usually tell by feeling and looking as the contour may be off. A magnet works too.

$7500 is a lot of money to spend on something that's been cobbed,filled with bondo and repainted.

Are you dodging the rear 1/4 panel question, can you post any actual clear pictures of the car and that area?
