Well I got a 96 EJ8 and the speakers are kinda dying. The fact that I turned it up so loud that if you were parralel to me on the free way it sounded like you had YOUR music up loud prolly dint preserve their life. =p

Anyways, im looking for some good speakers and subs (my tweeters are fine i think), for a good price. I think my rear speakers (6x9?) are okay. I am also interested in bass blockers.

So could someone possibly teach me about about sound systems?

Im also looking for links to ebay for subs and amps. Ill prolly run to circuit city after I learn about the speakers and pick some up there.

Thanks

(i will help you if you stop using "prolly" and start using "probably") =)

if i were you i would get new front speakers first...its an easy install and it should cost you less than a hundred bucks...go to crutchfield.com and see what fits in your vehicle...they will also tell you model number and brands of a few different sets of speakers that would drop right in...

installing a sub and an amp is pretty easy...but not easy if you have never attempted it before...

let me know what questions you have...

as long as you are willing to learn i am sure there are plenty of people on this forum to give you advice...

first word of advice...start out small...and start reading up on what you are going to be doing...

www.the12volt.com is a good place to start...

Before you run up to Circuit City, get the Sunday paper and check the sales circulars.

CarToys had a Kenwood eXcelon head unit for $119.00. Pretty good considering a lowly Kenwood MP025 is $99.00 at PepBoys

That's just an example.

You can also find good buys on Froogle if you know what you want.

If you are just going to run off the OE head unit then you don't need to worry about spending too much on speakers. You aren't going to be able to adequately power high end speakers off of a good aftermarket deck so you sure won't be able to off the OE unit.

O and btw.. in my eyes... no such thing as a "Good" or great system for hella cheap.. you get what you pay for with systems.

But if you wanna buy 2 10'', a box, and a 1500w amp let me know... im going deaf i can't use them anymore.

O and just so you know.. buying audio equipment online isn't always the best idea because most places will not warranty their products.. thats why they are cheaper than stores..

I already have an Alpine head unit and also a kenwood head unit, both installed.

I use the Alpine for my radio, CD, and Ipod. The kenwood manages Sirius radio and the MusicKeg that someone stole.

Other than that its all stock.

yeah this is a great site, good info and great tutorials
Also watch on the depth of the speaker, if there to deep then your probably gonna have to cut the plastic guard out. Try onlinecarstereo.com they have good prices most of the time

It may be better to go with better speakers and no subwoofer at all. The cost of an amp, sub and box will add up quick, and by saving that money you can probably get some nice speakers.

That might not be the route you want to go, just throwing the option out there. I personally don't want 60-100lbs of stereo in my trunk, so I'd spring for better speakers and no sub. But to each his own.

that is majorly ftl, imo.

but, yep, 12volt.com is a great resource. i do have to agree that "good" and "cheap" aren't synonymous when talking stereo, but it's okay to start out small and inexpensive. :thumbs up

If you want cheap and good sounds

(I know they suck compared to JL, not need to tell me, but i know someone will post it anyways)

Audiobahn and Ebay is the way to go, just make sure you match the RMS wattage of the speakers with the amp, Peak watts are worthless

i would put some nice speakers in the front doors....leave the stock rears ones...get a four channel amp and one sub...i have one twelve in my car and it is more than enough...i bridged out the rear channels of the amp and powered the sub and ran the front door speakrs off the front channels of the amp and left the rear stock speakers on deck power...you can get all that brand new for less that 300 bucks...another twenty for the sheet of wood...another 20 for the amp kit...install yourself...voila!...

buy the most recent john digweed CD and proceed to shake the bolts loose...

i dont know about using both headunits...you would have to get a switcher of some sort...or a preamp with multi head functions...or is one head unit running into the other one?...how do you have that wired?

Yep, yep, yep

If I can give one piece of advice to building even a descent system, it would be this:

Take your time, research research research, and piece it together. My current system is like 2 years in the making. And there is "better" that I want now, but am satisfied with my setup. All together, counting every piece of audio equipment I've ever bought, I've spent probably $3-4K...and I'm no audiophile, I just wanted something that had SQ full time and could get semi loud part time. Most of my time and money has been spent learning what exactly I needed for ME. The more you research, the less time and money you'll have to spend....but you'll still have to spend time and money. Piece it together one quality piece at a time and have patience.

My setup:
Pioneer Premier HU
Sony amp pushing-
--Boston components up front
--Eclipse 6x9's in back
Sony 500w amp pushing-
--single JL Audio 13.5 W1 sub
