I have been recommended to this mechanics shop and they did an initial "inspection" which lasted an hour.

They said all my fluids are good but I need my front brakes replaced (I knew that already), they also said the spark plugs were shot and I asked them to do a tire rotation. He quoted me $290..

Your take on this price? good / bad?

yeah if you do it yourself then rotation is free, spark plugs would be $30 tops, depending which ones you'll be buying, and depending what you need done on the brakes, if its just brake pads then $60 for OEM pads and an hour of your time
thats about $200 you would save :what:

I think the estimate's too high but that's what you're going to get when you take it in to your local garage or brake shop like midas.

post it up in our reginonal section and maybe you can find someone local to help you out.

I don't have the knowhow to do all that. Computers is more my specialty-not cars :P

Well if computers are your thing then you should be able to use google an find step by step instructions on how to do each thing. If you can change a tire you can rotate them.

Brakes might be a little more tricky if you haven't done them before but it's simple. Save yourself money.

Well I paid that including the parts. The parts were $88, and the labor was $135 for brakes, $45 for spark plugs, and $16 for tire rotation. I know how to do tire rotation, not very hard-but while I am good at computers and could easily find a step-by-step install, Doesn't mean I would be able to trust my install. Just like how my outlets in my house aren't grounded-There are plenty of install videos / manuals out there showing how to do it but I still wouldn't risk dying over it.

this is what I would have paid at a local tuner garage here and this is including rotors and tip!...

rotors: $30

pads: $20

spark plugs: $8

tire rotation: $0

labor: $45

tip: $20

total: $123

but that's what I would pay if I didn't feel like doing it myself...

$290 for spark plugs, tire rotation, and brake job? Holy s**t... Remember that most places quote you by the job and not how much time they actually spend to work on your car. If you can find a friend or someone you trust to do the work for your for cheaper, do it. $290 is outrageous IMO.

Brake pads and rotors for 2 front wheels should be $60 max (That is, cheap stuff at your local automotive store. You don't need anything better for daily driving). OEM NGK spark plugs are less than $2 or 3/ea if you buy them online. At Honda, they're like $5/ea but exactly the same thing. And a tire rotation obviously costs nothing in parts. Either way, they should come pre-gapped. It's always a good idea to check the gap though before putting them in.
