Whoa, anfrey.. Did I miss something? Why did you change your sig to 'totaled'? If you got a quick story, please share.
on friday june 18th, fifteen or so of us headed out from south bend towards michigan city for a meet at the beach. multiple subies, a few lanevos, a sick supercharged lexus, and a few others... we decided to take a federal highway (US-20) instead of the toll road to save us all some cash. the problem with federal highways is that they have stop lights. so, we're stopped at a red light, waiting for it to turn green...
all of a sudden the red jetta stopped behind me is rear ending me. turns out a jackass in a 94 chrysler concorde (we thought it was a dodge intrepid at the time... same car, really) didn't realize we were stopped all at the light and plowed into the jetta at highway speed (60+ mph). this set off a chain reaction, pushing the jetta into me, pushing me into the black lanevo sitting in front of me, and pushing him into the yellow lanevo in front of him. four of the five cars had to be taken away in flatbeds.
i wasn't injured, but my passenger (my friend james) got some whiplash. he was fine after a couple days, but is dealing with more pain right now... the driver of the red jetta took the brunt of the impact with some even worse whiplash and bad neck/back pain.
fastforward to tuesday, when my insurance adjustor lets me know the repair bill comes out to $7800 ($7300 after deductible), including 8-10 hours of frame pulling/aligning, and that my car's considered a total loss. they offer me a check for $7900 to total the car. i tell them it's not enough to replace the vehicle, and that another wrx with similar miles (137k) would cost about $9k here in the midwest. i get a call the next day with $8100 instead. whoopty f**king doo, $200 more dollars. f**k progressive!
i haven't accepted the check yet. i'm going to get my s**t out of the car tomorrow (including my short shifter and other goodies). i'm hoping one of my friends wants to buy the wrecked car. buyback is $1800 on it, and the engine is fine, the turbo and tmic should be fine, the drivetrain and brakes should be fine as well. perfect donor car for a swap. better to have someone who could use the parts get dibs rather to see her go at auction. i'd keep and part out the car, but that'd set me pretty far behind in obtaining a replacement vehicle (which i need asap)
....
this s**t comes in threes, right? first my roommate goes curb surfing in his EJ1 (the road veered left and he didn't), taking out his tranny in the process... then i get involved in a 5 car pileup... and now, a couple days ago, a friend of ours beaned and took out a telephone pole in his wrx:
