Alright, so here is the deal i got a hatch with a b18c1 i want a turbo. i dont know if it would be better to keep the head or swap it out with the b18b either way it would be preped right new internals and so on. give me some feed back.
pistons, rods, cams, valves, valvesprings and retainers, maybe sleeve it (you said you want to do it right), maybe something else along the lines of a port and polish job.
How much PSI are you thinking of running? As stated above the stock internals can handle boost well, but if you decide to go with lets say all new forged internals, you'll be able to boost the hell out of it. I was just suggesting that if you aren't going to run the turbo to high then it might be a waste of money to redo everything. But ya can't put a price on a sense of security, Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
umm i dont know what i was going to run, not alot i just wanted to be on the safe side and have things run right. i went to the machine shop the other day and its 5 grand to redo the internals...i dont want to wait that long.
Keep the head on there and don't worry about swapping out the internals unless u plan to run more then say 10 pounds. Just run about 6-7 pounds on the streey and ur engine will hold up and be pretty quick.
well ur planning on doin internals anyways, and actually, u said change the vtec head to an ls head right? actually, i think it's the other way around, you use a b18b block and b18c head (correct me if i'm wrong)
Yes, many people do the LS/Vtec setup (B18b block with a B-series Vtec head) but if it's not built right it can be pretty unreliable if you don't know exactly how to build one. He already has a B18c which is a great reliable engine to start off with and it's internals are very strong to begin with. I guess i was just trying to save him 5 grand by saying if he was going to run the turbo around 8 pounds, the stock internals would hold up great to that. I was just trying to save the man some money because cash flow seems to be one of the biggest downfalls to all of our projects, but if he's set on getting new internals, then go for it. haha it deffinitly won't do any harm.
yes i have a b18c i have been told that the vtec messes with the turbo once before and it didnt make sense why it would and wanted to see what everyone thought. But i think i have decide to get the turbo and run it low till i get the internals swaped out. i dont know what kinda of turbo im getting prob a t3/t4, seems to be what is ideal out of what i have read so far.
run the turbo around 6 psi to be on the safe side, and don't go boost crazy before you redo your internals like all the other people b/c you'll end up blowing up your engine
if you go to turbokits.com that have this complete FMAX kit with DYNOS that are run on stock internals at 8 psi without a problem you just have to retard the timing a little bit
