So I'm a newbie here. I'm looking to purchased a 2009-2012 Honda Civic or LX or EX in the next month or two. I thought about the Si but I don't know I want to drive stick all the time. I joined the forum to connect with other Civic owners and I plan on doing a TON to my Civic but I've never been around someone that could teach me how to properly do a lot of things I would be doing so if anyone can point me in the right direction, a place to start, a place to learn, it'd be greatly appreciated. As far as Cars go until now I've been a Dodge guy. My first car was a 2010 Dodge Challenger SE and I'm now driving a 2013 Dodge Dart Rallye. I look forward to meeting everyone! Oh and I'm in the Chicago area so feel free to drop any info about meets =)

Black Caulk or White?
you could go to a mom or pops mechanic shop and just see if you could learn a couple of things. like a family owned shop. id say go si but if you wanna learn and put parts into a car then get a different sub model. youtube is a great way to learn or look in the DIY section on this forum. goodluck with whatever civic you get and welcome!

If you're looking to spend a good amount of money on a newer car, you can always go with the option of something a little older to save a few dollars up front and then put some money into basic light maintenance / replacing parts. You'd end up with a decent running car and doing the work yourself will save some money and get you experience.

If you're just deep pockets, get a new Si and go ape s**t. There's not as much aftermarket support for the newer cars and not as many DIY write ups obviously with them being newer cars. s**t, the EG-EK chassis essentially have every DIY online from changing license plate bolts down to stripping the shell and welding in a RHD cut, etc.

Instead of doing a "ton" of stuff, if you had a little more direct goal or even an idea, we could better steer you to some options or even resources to look into for yourself to start your learning process.

:werd: Always use the search feature on here and look through old threads for any answers you may have, to your questions.

If you are a looking for a import shop, One6motorsports is located in Elk Grove Village. Mark the owner is a buddy of mine and my husband's. I highly suggest stopping in and talk to Mark, Alex, Louis, Mikey or Henry if you have any questions, looking for parts or need work done. They are very knowledgeable, ASE certified, trustworthy and can steer you in the right path if need be.

Of course there is always, iLLgarage in Addison, IL off 53. Once a year they usually have a shop BBQ that has a HUGE turn out. I believe they didn't do a BBQ this year for some odd reason... Last year was pretty wild since the turn out of cars had Addison police in a frenzy. My personal experience here wasn't the greatest, but cars that come out of this shop are beasts.

If you are looking for a good dyno/tuner, Mikey at Profunction or I think it's now called Factory 5 in Burr Ridge, IL (I'd have to call him), is one of the best in the area. (in my honest opinion)

I believe Suja1 motorsports is still out in Carol Stream, IL. (Not a good personal experience with these guys.)

Tounge Factory is in the Northwest Burbs somewhere.
Top Speed is downtown-southside.
I've not heard of ProjectX doing any work on any Honda's.

Chicago craigslist ALWAYS has a ton of parts floating around. If you need something specific, there's a pick n pull on the southside near Justice, IL off 55 that usually has some good stock parts I've picked up from there.

As far as meets are concerned, you are 6 years too late. The area for meets is scarce. But there are always a gathering of all sorts of cars every Friday night from 9pm to 2am at Strats drive thru restaurant in Villa Park, IL off North Ave. Overflow parking is directly across the street in front of ORiley's if you are the sit and watch type. VPPD don't play around either.

Occasionally there is a hangout of cars at 75th and Lemont on Friday and Saturday nights.

Anything having to do with the southside, I don't bother with. If anything, those meets happen in Orland Park. No clue when or where anymore since they let a little girl with zero experience of cars run their southside only site the last 2 years. This group is clique-ish.

If you plan on doing a lot of work to the car, I'd say go with the stick shift hands down.

Welcome to the site!

I don't have anything to say that everyone else hasn't touched on
