hi all - i'm new to the forum but have used it a bunch of time to search out answers. my newest problem, however, is pretty weird and i'm not finding anything threads that match my specific symptoms. here goes:
I have a 95 civic EX, all stock.
sorry in advance for writing a book, but i figured the more info y'all have, the better.
a couple months ago i noticed that my idle would drop down a bit when at a stop, and i'd have to rev to about 2K RPMs before accelerating from a stop in order to get normal power. after a couple of weeks the problem expanded into a quick hesitation when driving at a maintained speed, THEN it would sometimes (totally at random) run as though it's missing on a cylinder. this feeling as though it's "missing" is still going on, and seems to be slowly getting worse. sometimes i can drive all day and it's A-OK, then sometimes i can drive all day and it's running rough. sometimes i can start to accelerate, everything's OK, then all the sudden it'll run rough, then good, then rough, then be fine -- or just the opposite.
here's a list of what i've done (in chronological order) with the help of a more experienced friend, but none of these repairs/replacements has helped me at all, even though they seemed to be logical culprits:
- replaced the fuel filter
- ran a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it (seemed to help a bit for that tank of gas, but that was during the time when it could work fine for days at a time)
- replaced plugs, wires, cap+rotor
- cleaned all of my electrical contacts
- replaced distributor
my friend said that i could be the IACV(?) that has gotten dirty, but i am also curious as to whether this could be related to a faulty injector or perhaps a damaged timing belt (Honda timing belt with 60K on it).
I'm just a backyard mechanic, so please talk to me like i'm a n00b - i won't get offended.
