I want to know if my 92 VX Hatchback (5spd m) has a Vtech or not. Some sites keep saying it does. (Some Vtech-E bullshit) But all my friends say, na man that s**t aint got s**t. It doesn't say vtech on the manifold (or whatever that s**t is called) , but it may have a replacement one. It has a stock motor, as far as I know. Thanks,
Jared

its vtec - e which is basically an economical version of the infamous vtec the civic ex / si / integra gsr have.

The 92 motors did NOT say vtec on the valve cover, that only came later.

no sohc vtec motor says "vtec" on the cover. if yo ulook right next to your valve cover to the left, you will see a little thingee like a rounded stub tahts about 3 inches tall or so ( i think), thats your vtec solenoid. it has a green wire attached to it, thats the vtec signal wire. if you have it, you have vtec.

I might be wrong but........We do have Vtec on our 92 VX's, the Vtec-E, its economy efficiant but gives us a little more power (barley any) but our vtec kicks in at 5500 RPM's and we redline at 6000 RPM's so our Vtec is pretty damn useless unless you like to redline your VX all the time.

who told you that and how can u back this up? vx redline is 6200 by the way

vtec e operates differently than regular vtec. a vx only has 2 cam lobes, as opposed to the normal 3. one lobe is a normal size, and one is almost perfectly round, and only opens enough to keep fuel from pooling on the backside of the valve. this makes all the airflow at low rpm and light throttle flow through one intake valve, creading lots of turbulance, which improves fuel mixing. this is what allows the vtec-e motor to run with a stratified charge- a very very lean a/f ratio. after 2500rpm or with more throttle, the single valve isnt enough, and a stoichiometric a/f ratio is needed to prevent detonation. so at 2500 rpm or with heavy throttle, vtec engages a pin in the follower to make both valves follow the larger lobe. theres no high rpm kick, no difference in sound, etc. thats all in your head.

I was gonna ask this becasue i was wondering that if Vtec-e kicks in at 2500 RPM, that wouldn't have sufficient oil pressure would it? But since you explain that its not for power so much as economy, mixing fuel. Plus the redline. Imagine if a 3 cam lobe V-Tec could engage at 2500 RPM and make power! :worthy: That would be a pretty nice kick. EVERYONE would want Vtec more than they do now!
