Is my engine VTEC or non-VTEC? Very strange...

after looking at pics of various d16y8 engines on this site, I keep seeing the following pics with VTEC or Honda writing on it:

2000 EX (ej8):

and
98 EX Coupe:

My 2000 EX d16y8 has the VTEC solenoid but not the "Honda" or "VTEC" as shown in the above 2 pics (does this mean I DON'T have a SOHC VTEC)?
The valve cover has nothing to do with having VTEC or not. It is just a different design. Having a Mugen valve cover doesn't make the engine Mugen, especially since Mugen doesn't make any gear for the D. The first valve cover is taken from another engine, in fact. 94-95 Civic EX/Si had that valve cover.

thanks for the info. So maybe someone can explain my confusion on my engine code and the following list:

My engine code says I have a D16y8, and I have what is considered the Si 2000 here in Canada (2 dr coupe with sunroof, etc...). So if that's the case, why does the following code say I have a CANADA EX?

ex:
EJ8 D16Y8 CANADA All 2-door EX
EJ8 D16Y8 USDM All 2-door/4-door EX

I have an Si (according to the logo on the car, 2 dr coupe and moonroof, etc...), so shouldn't my engine say I have a D16y7 as follows?:

EJ6 D16Y7 CANADA All 2-door DX/Si

EJ8 in canada is the same as an EJ8 in USA. they both have a D16Y8, but in canada its called an Si and in USA its called EX (the SiR in canada is equal to Si in USA and has a double over-head cam VTEC motor B16A2). the D16y8 motor is a single over-head cam (SOHC) vtec engine, you cant have a D16Y8 without VTEC anywhere in the world unless someone has changed out the cylinder head.

ALL D16y8's are SOHC VTEC. not all say vtec, mine didn't but it is underneath that counts. If you are so unsure then look at the head casting #'s. It should say p2p on it somewhere above the header.
