hey Nickeleye welcome to the site bro . Hey what part of Ventura county do you live in? all i can say is thank god someone else is in Ventura i'm not alone. If you want the si get it .
I'm actually in Ventura itself. I'm also going tomorrow (Sunday) to look at an SI in Valencia. Here's the link on Auto Trader:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=174466313&dealer_id=&car_year=2000&make=HONDA&distance=50&max_price=15000&model=CIVIC&advcd_on=n&end_year=2000&min_price=9999&address=93003&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=2000&color=&cardist=39
I've got dibs on it. I talked to the owners dad. He's selling because he bought a new car and he just graduated from UCSD so he's got no use for the car now. Only mod done to the car was adding an AEM cold air intake (no biggie) and the rest is stock. The car supposedly has a couple of dents and scratches, but hell, the car is 5 years old so you really can't complain. It's also only got 60k miles so I think it's a great deal if it's really what's it's cracked up to be.

I've definitely got my fingers crossed. I'd love to put my Enkei wheels on that thing too. That'd be one sweet ride.

Go with the SI instead of doing up your dx it will be much better for you in the end. The car will hold its value much more then a dx would with a swap plus once you drive the SI and hear the VTEC you will be hooked =) . I was fortunate to be able to start out with a SIR I have driven a dx and si(in canada the 127hp) there is no comparison in my mind alot more of a car.

I'm going to try asking for 10,000 first and work my way up from there. Maybe I will also get a nice deal like you did.

its good to start low, but just think i got mine for almost 8 grand under what it retailed for, and it just had a couple scratches and the valves were out of adjustment, and like i curb mark on the rims. only 4 years old. and thats it, basically perfect otherwise. it took me a long time to find that price, but yea start low, and dont go over 12,500, thats what i would do. cuz u can find one for under that price somewhere else

Well, I just got back and I'm definitely going to get it (as long as my bank gives me the loan, which shouldn't be a problem). I put a $2,000 check down on the car just to make sure it stays mine and I'll pay for the full amount once I get the cashier's check and then I'll tear up the $2,000 deposit check. The car was really nice when I looked at it. Just a handfull (at very most) of minor dings that were barely noticable and a couple of very small scratches. Overall the interior and exterior were in great shape and nothing to complain about. More than acceptable for being bought in 1999. The engine looked great and there didn't appear to be any problems. Test drove the car for a while and it ran great. I didn't end up starting asking for $10,000 because that probably would've been an insult because the car was in such good shape. I offered $11,000 and he nearly went for it, but said that was quite a bit lower than what he was thinking. So he counter-offered $11,200 and I agreed. Like I said, given the condition of the car, I think I got a bargain. Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up on Monday or Tuesday.

My dad's got an extra set of DC Sports 4-2-1 headers for the B16 he said I could use and then I'll hook up my Thermal R&D exhaust from my DX if possible. I'm also planning on swapping the stock SI wheels and tires with my 16" Enkei's and Yokohama tires from the DX. I think the only other thing I'd really want to put in the SI is the short shifter I have in the DX. After those few mods I think the car would be looking and driving pretty nice... or nicer than it already is I should say. I'm a lot more excited about this car than I was after test driving the '05 SI.

Well, I did obviously notice that it accelerated faster than the DX... it should with that much more horsepower. It seemed to be a lot more fluid when shifting gears. What I mean is that the acceleration of the car seamlessly increases in the SI whereas in the DX the engine seems to take a small breather when shifting, which makes it that much more obvious when you're shifting and you don't accelerate as quickly. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but it's the best I can describe. The car drove smooth. I definitely noticed that when I got to a certain RPM the vtech would kick in, which I'd never experience before. I couldn't get too crazy with the car since I didn't want to get a speeding ticket in town and not to mention the fact that the car wasn't totally mine yet so I didn't want to mess anything up.

I applied for my lone online so I am hoping to stop by my credit union tomorrow after work to do the remaining paperwork and so on. Then I may get the car that night or maybe Tuesday. Can't wait to get it and test it out some more on the drive home (about a 45 min. drive).

sounds like it works great.....yea the si shifter is a lot smoother than a lot of other manuals ive driven. i was making a video w/ my video productions class, it was a public service anouncment and ours was ways to spot scammers, and i had me drive up to school and another guy pretend to be a valet and then he just stole the car, and after he drove it he was like "dude! your clutch doesn't stick at all! and you dont even have to push it all the way down!" he drove some old truck w/ a crappy 4spd or something.....so yea moral of the story is the si has a good tranny.

and for future refrence, its V-TEC not VTECH. vtech is a phone lol. im glad your happy w/ the car

ahh, I just like the stock rims on the EM1, I thought you were going to buy new rims for it, and I thought you could spend your money on something else...

those rims look nice. its ur choice, but if u put the enkeis on the si, you should sell the si rims, cuz a lot of people want them, and if they're in good condition, u could prolly get 350-400 for them if not more

I would consider selling the SI rims, but I need to put something on to my DX. I still have the stock wheels from the DX, but I will likely be getting snow tires for christmas that I'd be putting on the stock DX wheels.
