I need your opinion. i finally found a ls tranny after calling everday for a month now. they want 700 for the tranny and its a 95. thats way more than I expected so now im considering the type r tranny which I can get for 1000. im not exactly sure which R tranny it is but i will find out tomorrow. my question is which tranny should I get? i want the ls cause it has a greater powerband which allows me to stay in boost longer but the r has lsd, but shorter gears. help

itr is a phenominal tranny if you ask me.feels great to shift, so smooth, plus the lsd.it seems like a lot for the ls one.as far as gearing, that is up to you

thats overpriced for a ls.....go type r, it will never lose its value...and boosted, even thought it cant handle crazy power...the lsd will help out alot

i dont want to give you the wrong idea, yes the itr is an amazing tranny, but it may be better suited for n/a applications.it just might be better to keep looking for a ls if your boosted

yes i know im getting raped, but they can do that, because no one can find one here and there such high demand. local shops around here wanted 900 -950 for a gsr tranny

You always want shorter gears, lemme see if I can find the link to a comparison video that was on turbod16. Anyways a summary is that the shorters gears allow you to keep the rpm's high throughout the run, thus keeping your engines output at its fullest potential.

i would get the type not only because it has shorter gears, but it has LSD which would help you out with traction especially since you are boosted

NO.you dont.longer gears are often used on turbo cars.read around, learn something.

was gonna say that, but didnt want to start like the 200th arguement about the same topic.....and a type r for 1 g aint much, compared to what they're going for on the internet....if u dont want it, hook me up with the type r tranny ; )

Ya, I knew I was gonna start something. O well.

Yes, you loose time shifting through the gears more frequently, but you gain time because your rpm's don't drop as significantly. Either way it's a age old argument with boosted cars.

shorter gears= faster acceleration. period. its simple physics. more mechanical advantage almost always wins. unless your making more hp than you can put down traction wise, or you are topping out in 5th before you end the 1/4th (both of which require a rediculous amount of hp), shorter gears are better. even forgetting that, and saying they were 2 equal trannys, the extra 300 for the lsd alone is worth it, lsd is one of THE BEST mods you can have for your car, bar none. get the itr no question. if you find its too short for you, you can always trade it and make some $$ too for a gsr or ls tranny- but please make sure you keep the lsd, or trade it for another lsd tranny.

I agree with LSD and for monkey racing.. i mean.. drag racing... but having longer gears is great for Auto-X.. going around a turn at 40-50 mph and keeping it in 3rd and being in the middle of the power band beats the hell out of dropping to 2nd and puffin out the last 800rpm . *shrug* Like I said, its really a matter of personal preference. But LSD for teh win.
