Ok first I would like to say, that yes some of my generalizing comments were uncalled for so I retract those and apologize. Also I think I must have dropped some credientials, and that's lame but it's like everyone was doing the whole name calling thing so I thought I'd jump in on the fun.
If you're hating on me, if I make you angry, and you resort to name calling, that's a good indication that you have run out of counterarguments, reached the boundaries of your wit and you've lost the argument. Especially when you use sexist epithets. I guess that kind of Klan mentality is permitted by the mods here or maybe they haven't seen it yet.
There's some confusion so I'll sum everything up.
I never said automatics are better. I said clutches suck. Automatics suffer from drivetrain losses and that can be overcome to some extent. So how about we ditch the antiquated clutch and make an automatic that allows you to control the shifting? Oh yeah, they're doing that already, its called sequential.
If you have an automatic and it allows you to control all gears, why not, and what makes shifting intrinsic to one or the other? It's not copying, it's using it as it was made!
You can hold down the brake and throttle at the same time, getting the RPM high enough that the tires break loose which is too high for being fast but just right for showing off. A lot of you sound like you've never driven an automatic hard in your life.
It's funny that you mention the Corolla. I actually have a lot of experience with that car. I put a 20 valve 4 cylinder DOHC quad throttle variable valve timing engine into my Corolla. Then I bought a 1.5 SOHC Civic and I'm happier! The US version Corolla is very very toned down and it's not a car to be taken seriously, despite whatever the specs may say, Corollas are slow, no matter which trans. It's not the fact that its an auto, its the gearing. Also, that's not a good way to judge a car. A good driver in a bad car will beat a bad driver in a good car, not to mention all the other variables besides the type of transmission. And you got it backwards. Auto's have a lot of torque multiplication down low but actually have less power than manuals, especially in the high end.
And yes I'm being very sarcastic throughout this post cuz so many people said "blah blah blah". I'm sure you're all tired of hearing from me so stop responding!
