cmon skyline engine!

bring the jdm dream to the US!
umm...i really cant say this enough, but RB's are really not that great. idk why people think they are so amazing. they are more trouble than they are worth IMO. I really considered an RB20, since it would have costed half as much as my swap did, but they are just not that great.

Hehe, that they are!

I am looking into an RB20, since it's a little less expensive. Parts arecoming to be more available lately, and locally here in Tucson

Probably not going to drift it. I just want a semi fast daily!
no offense or anything, but RB20's suck. they are useless...

if you are dead set on going RB, get a 25.

I realized they aren't that great today after spending like a half hour on the phone with Densetsu motorsports here in Tucson.

Probably going to get an SR20, but I have yet to learn the real differences between the motors.

difference between which motors? i can probably help.

i'm not going to lie, i was a big SR hater. i went through a lot of different plans for power and i just came to the conclusion that an SR was the best way to go. its not the best designed motor in the world, but its tried and proven, easy swap, and an infinite aftermarket. i wanted something that was going to be reliable on the track, require the least amount of custom fab work (i like bolt in, so much easier to get replacements) and made good power, and nothing else really fit the bill.

What is the difference between the S14 version and the S13 redtop and blacktop? I know the turbos are different, technically is there anything major?

I do believe the s14 blacktops have cam timing

S13 red top, 91-94 silvia/180sx
S13 black top, 94-98 180sx (S13 180sx was made until 1998 in japan)
s13 black top has VERY minor differences from the red top, some of the coolant passages are different or whatever, different o2 sensor, minor ECU change, but for our purposes, the only difference is the black top is newer and a lil bit more expensive, though both the s13 black and red tops have the same performance specs

S14 SR (late 93-98, s14 started in 93 in japan) has VVL (basically useless), but they also got a T28 turbo which is a nice upgrade from the T25 on S13 SR's and bumps the horsepower rating from 205 to 220. other minor differences occur, but thats the basic jist of it.
