ok.... ive been driving around my car alot now because i fixed my suspension problems so its safe to drive.... and ive been noticing that my 3rd gear blows.... ok... every time i let loose.... heres how it goes..... 1st gear .. a few RPMs before redline (6K rpm) i shift at around 35 mph........ 2nd gear.... a few RPMs before redline i shift around 65 mph ... both gears go fine... rpm rises fast enough ... when 3rd gear comes around... the RPM is at about 3000 .... and it climbs VERY slowly... and it goes to about 80 normally.... then it gets really really slow... then i usually run out of road....

whats wrong with it?... and how do i fix it?

so once you shift to third gear it takes along time to get high in the rpms? if so my car does that to...gotta love fuel efficient cars......what motor is n that car, im to lazy to look....but 65mph in 2nd gear sounds a little shady to me...:what:

first off, its a vx, economical, not fast. but how much are you short shifting from redline? if you redline second, you should be higher than 3k in 3rd gear. and thats prolly the problem, cuz there is no power below 4k. almost feels like hitting a wall when you feel it pull in the higher rpms, then shift out of the powerband

Downshift or double clutch if u don't got enough power... don't shift to 3rd until it gets to a higher rpm, that way, it won't end up at 3000 rpms when u shift to 3rd... know what i'm sayin?

2nd gear at 65mph? That's kinda beatin the s**t out of ur engine isn't it??? Becareful when u do that!

err....lol... first of all .... my tach only goes to 8K !!.. LMAO!... errr.... and then... and chatalee860 ... u just contradicted yourself.... cuz u said shift at a higher RPM and if i do that my MPH would b definatly be around 65-70... and then u said thats beating the s**t out of my engine.... so what should i do?... let the RPM climb to redline... or let the rpm climb REALLY slowly in 3rd gear?...lol

redline isnt bad if youd ont do it all the time...every once in a awhile its kewl...i wouldnt reccomend it in the higher gears tho as thers more strain on motor since it takes longer ot get to redline

vx has incredibly long gears combined with a way too long final drive, thats why you can go so fast in 2nd. you run out of steam because the gears dont give the weak motor any mechanical or gearing advantage against the ever increasing wind resistance.

regarding the 2nd gear redline..... the b16a2 is geared to hit 60mph just before redline in 2nd gear... so, it would make perfect sense for your car to spin past 60 in 2nd since your gearing is much longer..... also, 3rd gear in all hondas is very long.... it's the first economical gear. when i shift at redline i drop down to just above 5500 rpms in 3rd.... that's just the way it is.

and, yes, the easy answer is to swap..... which, in your car, will make it fly..........

haha.... i wasn't contradicting anything, i was just saying, 'becareful if u do that' cuz it redlines... that's all

If you are poor...you could go with a mini-me swap. Get someone (who knows what they are doing) to attach a D16Y8 or Z6 head on your d15 block. My friend just did one with a CRX HF and it works rather nicely. Great thing about it all you need is a Y8 or Z6 ECU, head, intake mani?, and some time. I don't think anyone has a mini-me here...so it would be a cool original thing to do. Once you have a mini-me you could always go turbo later...just make sure you loose that shitty d15 crank.
