i like what you're doing with this car. you're into the custom mini-truck style and its being very well reflected i think. here is my idea for your tail light issues:

i know its fairly plain and simple, but i think it gets the job done. doing something with LED bars will probably be your best option for rear lights.

Coming along good, painted the interior plastics, ordered my JDM SiR headlights with city lights, replaced some of the warn plastics, got my license plate painted cap covers, ordered a new trunk seal. I just have to finish the doors which is killing me not to do....

Whoa.. progressingly looking great! You must have a lot of paint to work with.. :P

That paint job looks hot.. what BC/CC are you using if you don't mind telling?

And another question about painting.. how did you go about the front and rear window moulding trims and the top two mouldings on the roof...

did you have to peel out the window mouldings or did you just pull them back and taped it?
and how about the top two mouldings on the roof.. did you have to take them off?

I'm planning on painting my car this summer.. i just need some tips to get prepared for a clean job.. :P

Now thats clean body work!.. keep it up...

The paint was Dupont Paint and clear, for the paint I used Dupont Chromobase Taffeta White (NH578) and Dupont Chromasystem 7175S med temp reducer (painted at 75-80). For the clear I used a really good, pretty expensive, clear by Dupont called ChromaPermier 72200S productive clear and ChromaPremier 12385S slow reducer with Chroma Permiere 12305S activator. With that combo you can wetsand it with some 2000 real nice and buff it out and it looks like glass. I baked the car as well to 145.

All of the moldings were removed, I actually didnt even reinstall the rear side window moldings yet because it looks good with them off (and water will not get in they are sealed tight) but I have to order them.

As for prep what do you want to know?

Here are some updated pictures...

Please notice though, I didnt repaint the front bumper, you can tell how much better the paint looks from factory to respray!

Oh wow.. great info!.. I have painted before.. my first try.. i used the PPG BC/CC Omni.. it turned out good..but i was rushing because I was only avaliable during weekends when i'm back from college.. and winter approached so i painted in 60 degree weather which was cold for painting..but i had to get it done.. OMNI is too thin.. so i'm thinking about trying different paints.. maybe the dupont..or a step higher with ppg deltron.. i'll see.

so i'm thinking about repainting the car again this summer in warmer weather.. so i'm just scared about he stripping paint down and whatever..(the steps before painting :P )

well.. for sanding and striping down the paint/clearcoat..(not to bare metal).. did you use a DA sander? what kind do you use or recommend if you did? I have a 60gallon 11CFM.. will it be strong enough?

oh and about removing the front windshield and rear window moulding, is it easy to take it off and put it back on?..heatgun?.. glue it back on? or do you have to replace it with new mouldings?

Sorry about all the questions!.. i appreciate your help.. it goes a long way :D

Yeah!.. it does look better without the side window mouldings.. looks very clean..can't wait..

I admire your ability to customize. You have good ideas-I can see it in your work. For show, the shaved moldings and taillights are good, as well as the license plate(I think).

refreshing to see something else being done to a civic. although the license plate is a little weird to me...so used to seeing it on a tailgate i'm not sure how i feel about it yet. also, have you thought of embedding the teardrops in the back bumber instead of having them protrude...that would (IMO) make it look a helluva lot cleaner. not to say it's my style or anything...but i'll definately be checkin in on this car to see what you're up to. keep us posted :thumbs up

I didnt use a DA on my car at all and you shouldnt either. If you want your car to be straight you need to block sand it out. I blocked it out with a 12" board, and a hand board. Low on the body or in corners you can use a DA because it wont screw anything up in a corner.

The front windshield moulding and rear mouldings pull out but you will want to get new ones you replace them, you CAN reuse them but I wouldnt. To put the ones in the sides and stuff soak them in some soapy water or something to make them expand and they will fit back on alot easier.

The mouldings on the side if you want to take them off pull your door panel off and pop them off from the inner door.
