My new upgrade from a 2000 DX

Here's my new '00 SI. Just bought it about 4 weeks ago as an upgrade from my '00 DX. Got a good deal so I think it's worth it. When I bought the car it already had an AEM CAI installed as well as some fog lights, which actually aren't hooked up. I'm actually debating replacing the front bumper at some point and using a different style foglights. I think it's a little cheeseball how the previous owner had the lights installed the way they were. That being said, they don't look terrible, but I think I'd change them in the future. I've swapped over some of the parts from my DX onto the SI as follows:

DC Sports 4-2-1 ceramic headers
Random Technology high flow cat
Thermal R&D Stealth catback
16" Enkei wheels w/Yokohama tires
V-spec coil overs and springs
Short shifter
Silverstar headlight and signal bulbs (front end)

Ride height is 24-1/2" from ground to edge of wheel well. The car's got it's minor dents/dings and some other things that need to be fixed, but I think this is a good starting point.

Yeah, as I eluded to above, I am considering changing out the bumper at some point in the future and the new one would be one without the honda emblem.

As for lowering it, I did lower it. Not as much as a lot of people, but lower than stock and I think it looks good. I don't personally care for when a car is lowered so much that the space between the tires and wheel well is very uneven. In my opinion it gives an unsymetrical look and doesn't do it for me. I'm not trying to lower the thing to the ground. Just enough to make it look nice. Besides, I prefer not to go over speed bumps or dips at 2 mph... not to mention scraping the tires on the wheel wells when you turn the wheel all the way. Like I said... just my personal taste. I don't hold anything against those who lower theirs that much... but I don't really have any intention of doing so.

Why's it weak? Just because I don't have vtec stickers slapped all over it or aftermarked tail/headlight housings? Is it because I haven't lowered it 4"? No SI wheels (I took them off because I personally prefer my Enkei's more)? I'm not trying to be rude, but I guess I just don't understand what makes an SI "look like an SI".

I like the front H on Civics. I drive a Honda. I like having the H on the front.

Looks nice. Paint looks like it's in good shape. I like the wheels too. Just take the H off of the grill and your set.

I actually removed the DOHC Vtec stickers off the sides of the car. Maybe that's an "identifying" feature of the SI, but I personally don't care for stickers plastered all over the car. Again, my personal taste. If I do put a vtec sticker on it'll be a lot less obtrusive and likely in a different spot. In any case, I've barely had the car a month and I'm sure all of you know that making modifications to these things doesn't exactly come cheap... not if you want to do it right anyway. Changing either bumper out is a ways down the road due to money. I like the skirts the way they are so I'll probably just keep them. I probably won't be adding the SI spoiler either. That'd be an easy addition, but I think I actually like the look without it.

All you guys are saying to lower it, but how much is lowering it really?

Here's a picture from 007Civic in this forum. This is a perfect example of the lowering I'm not interested in. IMO that's 2" to 2-1/2" too low.

To get rid of the front "H" do you have to change out the whole front bumper or can you just replace the grill?

i think it just pops out but to remove the grill u have to take off the front bumper by 6 lil screws... new grill will only cost you 30 bucks type-r style but the plastic grill on the type r grill isnt as idk "thick"???? i think it would look nice with a red h badge imo. but nice car keep it clean! blacks a b***h to keep up but i detail cars so i know whats up with the black.

Just replace the grill... Or you could DIY your existing grill... There is no reason that you would have to replace the whole bumper.....

And you definitely need to get rid of those foggies, get the Honda Factory ones, look tight as hell.....

The DOHC VTEC stickers are stock so I would see no reason as to taking them off.... Its a badge of honor for Si owners.... But if you dont like it then its all good.... 8)

Edit: DO NOT get a red H emblem.... It really screws up the cleanliness of the car.... IMO....

I'll look into switching out the grill. Not so interested in a red emblem in the front. Probably just a blank grill. I also like the stock Honda fogs in the front, but if I did that I'd still want a new bumper since I'd have to remove the fogs that came with the car and that would mean I'd have two gaping holes in the lower grill.

Maybe it's a sacrilage to remove the stickers, but I guess I just think the car looks cleaner without them since the car is black. I still have the sense of pride since I've still got the redi SI emblem on the back end.

Anfrey - just noticed your post after I had already just posted...hehe. I assume that diagram is from the factory service manual (I have one at home). I haven't had a chance to look up the grill under the body section yet, but you've done the work for me. Thanks. Looks like I won't be needing to buy a new grill after all. I think I'll definitely take out the "H" and the housing for the "H" as well. Thanks!
