I'll find out soon enough, if not, than I'll do and h22 swap, or just rebuild the d series with bigger piston. I want to get this thing up to 170hp min.Vei1Side said:how are you gonna swap a bseries with a auto tran? is that possible?

Hey, will do. I'll photograph the valve cover this week, and post the pic on this thread. I bought it off of ebay for about 20 bucks. It looks good, I just have to clean it up a little. Picture coming soon.ljnick17 said:i know this thread is sorta old, but i wanted to know if you could post a pic of your black oem valve cover. i was looking for a new valve cover for a d16y8, and was checkin out the 5th gen ones, but wanted a black one that was factory painted. (instead of getting one and then painting it black). thanks man
thanks a lot. i swear i've seen pics of the black oem ones before, but i just can't completely remember what they're like. i painted my stock y8 cover red a while ago, but am just not feeling it anymore and am looking for something new. i did end up buying another y8 cover today from a salvage yard, because it was only $20 and i figured what the hell. if i can't get a nice oem one, i might just paint my new one black or maybe have it powdercoated black so it has a nice finish, but i'd prefer to get a hold of the oem one...94cdx said:Hey, will do. umm..not really following what you said....i don't think oem mufflers are aluminum, i think they are all steel. why did you try to have muffler installed anyway? did you need an oem replacement or are you looking to get an aftermarket one? it sounds like your looking for a relatively quiet exhaust...is that right? just further explain what the deal is..94cdx said:Hey, I went to meineki to have a muffler installed, and those fools wanted to charge me 143 buck for a standard OEM muffler for a 94 Civic DX, plus 65 more dollars for labor. WThell? I said "no thanks, I'll order an aftermarket exhaust system and put it on myself. There is NO WAY one of those aluminum oem mufflers cost 143 dollar signs. Let me have some feedback on a free flowing muffler that make too much noise. Thanks.
Ok, let me try to clarify. The boys at Meinike said the muffler wasn't a free flow muffler, just a standard replacement muffler like the kind you see on a lot of cars. Maybe, they aren't Oem, but they sure aren't performance, and aren't made out of high grade aluminum. Anyway, i saw on a honda site where an Oem muffler for my car was less than $100 ( don't remember the exact amount). What I want is is to change the entire exhaust of my car (excepting mainfold), inter. pipes, front and back muffler and tail pipe. The reason I don't want to change the mainfold is because I don't want the noise that headers I hear will bring. Am I right about this? If I could change the entire exhaust system (including manifold for headers), get a hp boost, but not get the ridiculous noise, then I would. Please, school me if I'm wrong.ljnick17 said:umm..not really following what you said....i don't think oem mufflers are aluminum, i think they are all steel. why did you try to have muffler installed anyway? did you need an oem replacement or are you looking to get an aftermarket one? it sounds like your looking for a relatively quiet exhaust...is that right? just further explain what the deal is..
anyway, a new oem muffler for your car lists for about 150ish, but you can get them for around 110 or maybe even a little less. so the price they gave you for an oem muffler was acutally a little less than the list price, so it wasn't that bad.
well, i'm not sure how much more noise a headeR will bring....i got one, but haven't installed it yet. even with a full exhaust system (header + catback), you are not going to see a night and day difference. were not talking like 30 hp here, more the 5-10, depending on the system you get and your car, etc. not that upgrading your exhaust isn't a wise move. it is a very good mod to preform. it sounds like it might be best for you to get custom piping run from the cat all the way back to a universal muffler. (i say this because it sounds like you don't want to spend a lot of money. i.e. $400-$500 on a catback) probably not that much larger diameter than stock, to keep the noise down. i'm not an expert on custom piping/universal mufflers, so seach the forums for the best size piping for the power/noise you want. also check out some universal muffles. have people recommend some decent ones too. the meinike one didn't sound too promising....you can also get a silencer in some/most mufflers to keep it a little quiter. and usually you don't end up losing that much power buy using a silencer. its a small sacrifice for lower noise levels.94cdx said:Ok, let me try to clarify.
