Cats will step in their own poop.. that's just what they do. So long as it's solid, it shouldn't be an issue. You said it's solid now, so I'm assuming this issue is all over.
I know you said that you don't feed him human food anymore... make sure you stick to this. Human food is NOT meant for cats. OC, I know you mentioned a piece of meat here and there won't hurt... this would be true if the meat was fresh off the bone with nothing added (preservatives, spices, etc..) Unfortunately, preservatives are unfit for cat consumption.... and unfit for human consumption for that matter, but that's a different conversation altogether.
Somebody also mentioned that fixing a cat is inhumane... As long as your cat is an inside cat and is never around another fertile cat.. that's perfectly fine. Otherwise, it's inhumane NOT to fix your cat. Thousands of cats are euthanized every day because there are way more cats than their are owners. If your cat has a litter of 6 kittens, you can pretty much guarantee that 6 adult cats will be put to their death because of it (unless you decide to take care of all 6 kittens, plus the cats you had already.)
I personally have 3 cats, one who is an amputee, and 2 other cats that my girlfriend and I rescued from the neighborhood.
