alrighty so Last march i blew u my boosted D15b stock block at 221 WHP...( went cheap hand-me-down parts & Cheap tuner who couldnt turn down the boost after it hit 220 and who also ran 10 dyno pulls..) cracked head hour later... then tried to baby the car to a local shop to swap and ended up with a hole in my side block the size of a piston.

so im looking to get a CRX and getting back into the boost...
(contemplated nitrous but for me there is no substitute for a sexy blow off)

so i was going to boost a b20 on a stock block just daily driver...

a fellow racer mentioned a LS B18 would be a better choice for the boost...

(seeing as how i hit 221 [for an hour] for my SOHC im hoping for 250-300 HP on the B series...

at the least ill buy a ebay kit.. upgrade blow off to brand name, upgrade fuel pump, injectors, waste gate and proper engine monitoring system. wideband, afr, etc...

pretty much question is.... other than a GSR & k20

what B block is ideal & reliable for 250-300 on a basic kit & a way better tuner... possibly bisimoto, or do-it-dyno ( hear bubba is actually decent wih DOHC rather than my sohc)

anyways no burns please.. thanks for your time fellas

any b series with a good tune will handle that. I wouldnt go back to that tuner at all, if he cant tune a d series correctly he will FUBAR a b series as well

got traction

i rock the sohc

NOT a B20 though. LS motors generally handle boost the best as they have lowest stock compression.

Take a look at this link:
http://beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html#Engine
b20bs are 8.8:1, LS is 9.2:1. The B20 with the p8r head is 9.6:1

In terms of strength the are identical. The compression is only going to help with detonation, and between the two the differnece isnt that much

PS you know that G2IC turbo page is over ten years old right? Ive been on G2IC for 6 years and it was dated then. Not trying to be rude but tuning has come a long way since then.

the tuner that was the worst was Pro street Import in california.. i told him im aiming for 200 whp on my stock block d15b
gave him a manual boost controller & 330 injectors...

he installed and after he installed controller the boost was un controllable.. and after 10 dyno runs 221 whp he gave it back.. hour later pushing 3rd gear felt like chuck norris him self round house kicked my bumper i Was FLYING!!!!! and apon shifting at 7,000 i just hear a Crack*

open my hood at a gas station.. my radiator hoses look like baloons like they are about to explode off the radiator and block..
took off the valve cover the next day a couple cracks on the retainer??? guess thats what they are called.

tried to low rpm baby it to shop to swap but made it half way boom smoke and car turn off..

bubba at do it dyno tuned it at 5 psi 161 hp.. it was rich but that s**t ran for a while till i got greedy.. .. thanks fellas. so any B block.. im do some reserach on some b18s

Yeah, but the motors haven't changed ;)

I agree though, tuning has most likely changed.. that article was since before I could drive

my first order of business in a build now is how and where am I getting it tuned. In cincy I always had dave blundell tune my cars at TPR

but memphis is a different story, and I r dumb when it comes to tuning

true, but my point was that b20's are not very good for boost using stock internals.

http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2725306
well what honda engine is?

In the end, on stock internals other things break before sleeves crack. Its usually the rods that let go first. Im not trying to argue, but the OP isnt going for crazy numbers. So between an LS and a B20 I would go with whatever you can get your hands on on the cheap, because internally an LS and B20 are identical. The only real difference is the one piece iron sleeve in the B20 and the 84mm bore

Is it just me or 250-300 hp a good size number? I mean its not crazy but ur still talking good power. How long could stock internals hold that? Idk much about boost.. Still learning but a stock ls and b20 non v only push around 175-180? Wouldnt 300 just kill it?

if you decide to go with an ebay kit make sure you use an oil restrictor
