Hey, srry to revive a dead thread but i gotta queastion dealing with my shifter, thought it might be eaiser to use this thread than make a new one.

Well i just got my Skunk2 S/S Knob and ES shifter bushings in and im really happy with the outcome but i have a few queastions.

The counter weight on the shifter taps the headshield (stock exhaust) so im gona bend that down.

The stock shifter had bushings around the little bearing part that wont fit the new shifter, so i left them out, but my real problem is that i dont know wat order the Skunk2 bolt, washers, etc go in....Theres 1 bigass washer 2 fat ones and 2 skinny ones, i dont know how to put it all on (stock bolt on atm) if anyone knows plz tell me. Also when the stock shifter was in nuetral before, the shifter would stay between 3rd and 4th gear, and if you pushed it between 1st and 2nd gear , when u let go it would push back to the middle, but now with the S/S it will sit between 1st and 2nd if you push it there, not really a problem but it bothers me slightly, know how to make it stay in the middle?

Pic of the Shifter/Knob/Boot installed.

Help please! everywere i look online i cant find how to fix this, the shifter dosent center itself at all. Shiftin into 4th is a b***h atm. The shifter also vibrates like hell (guessing this is because its hittin the heat shield). But if anyone knows how to make the shifter center itself again please tell me, its such a pain in the ass to drive atm.

Hey one thing I did in my car to make the shift boot stay up was, I took some tape and just a bit below the knob I taped around till the shift boot sat on it. Worked perfect for me..

As far as the other to problems I have no idea..

I was actually thinking about this.... *remember i have never done this before, just using common sense, lol*

If you could find some way to wrap like a rubberband or 2 to the spot you want the shift boot to stay. I think it would work and not look to ghetto?

Yea the boot works fine now (still working on the ebrake boot) but thats not the issue! Someone please tell me how to make the shifter center itself again, its such a pain in the ass to drive, hard to get into certain gears because of it. im taking it to a shop friday so me and my friend can use the lift to bend the exhaust down a bit, but id like to fix this at the same time. info please!

another solution is a metal or plastic washer.

since %99.99 of shift levers are tapered, simply find a washer that will slide down to the desired height for the boot. and install the boot over it.

it wont leave a nasy ass residue that tape will in the summer time.

i haven an 04 sti knob and an itr boot, this was the method i used on mine
