i have heard manual is faster then auto im not to sure though because u dont loose the time shifting. but im sure a manual will come off the line faster. but if its jsut a daily driver what the hell who cars but if u r goin to the track every weekend then manual would be my pick.

Weak? There is an auto del slow(z6) with a greddy turbo kit(11lbs) and a 35 shot and his motor goes before the tranny does. He is on motor number 3 and tranny number 1...

A 5 speed can be faster, depends on the driver. A auto will always be more consistent though. You got to think a stick, will never be the same, you never know when you are going to miss a gear or shift.

A stock automatic car will be slower than a stock manual car, in most cases. The driveline losses associated with the automatic are greater than for the manual. Also, the car companies don't build cars just for the enthusiast; they build it for the mass population, who wants a car that shifts smoothly, not quickly.

Now if you build up the automatic it can be quicker than a manual. Can you shift in a matter of milliseconds? You also never have to worry about missing a shift. It is much much more consistent.

Ford auto trannies are rather weak as well. It will hold up to some abuse, but not much.

ford trannies arent that strong, friend blew one on his gt already with minimal mods. but autos can be quick: tz is right about the driveline losses, but autos can make it up in other areas. a manual is faster usually b/c of the fact it has more gears, hence shorter ratios. but if you put in a high performance torque converter with a higher stall, as well as a shift kit that will make shifts faster and more positive, it will be a beast. dont have to worry about slipping the clutch for a good launch, or dumping the clutch and have tire spin. just hold the break, rev it up a lil, then release brake and your off, just plant the right foot and watch the road. (torque-braking for those that dont know) to prove it, my hatch took my friend teg ls off the line because i have damn near perfected torque brake in my car.

the whole point in this was: dont hate on autos, we need love too.

I would usually be a Automatic Trannt hater, however I have seen the light. I was watching a Race Vid, and I saw a 11 second automatic CRX on there! Ther ewere talking all this good stuff about it, then onc ethey showed the time slips they zoomed in on the auto gearbox! I was in AWWWW!!!! Anything really IS possible with money!!!

This particular car has a lot of potential as far as automatics go, being unique in that it allows you to hold it in 1,2,3, and 4, while most Hondas I've seen give you 2,3,4 and most Toyotas give you 1,2,3. In first it will let you hit the rev limiter, in second it overrides the manual override. Haven't tried 3rd yet.

An automatic will give you low RPM torque multiplication, something all Honda's desperately need. I love the power surge in between gears.

I second (or third or whatever) what was said about a shift kit and a high stall torque converter. If anyone has had any experience with a shop in southern CA I'd love to hear about it.

Oh and also the Honda auto shifts feel a lot more solid than all other's I've been in. Hard shifts without a lot of factory induced slippage are good for both the life of the trans and performance. Damn some Honda autos feel like you're getting punched in the face during the 1-2 shift.

And Honda autos are of a different design than all others, being that it doesn't utilize a planetary gear. I'm not sure what the purpose or intent was but it's interesting at least.

11 second automatic doesn't surprise me in the least. All the super fast funny cars are automatics, 3 speeds even.
