okay i have a 5th gen civic and will definately be swapping the engine. I have narrowed it down to two potentials - the B16a2 or the H22 (would love to go for a B18 but they are toooo expensive).

I have checked previous threads on H22 and though they wer useful they have left a few questions which I am unsure about unanswered.

1) Will I have to change the fuel pump?

2) Will I lose power steering? (dont have a/c in UK models)

3)If so, is there a way around power steering loss?

4) I will obviously have to import from the states but which companies to you recommend (www.hmotorsonline.com looks good)

5) How much does it cost on average to perform the swap (excluding engine cost)?

Sorry about all the qs but I have tried to find answeres but this has confused be even more!! :(

Thanks guys!

i didnt realize the b18 was that much more expensive than an h22. an considering you said b18, not specifying which one, im sure you can get an ls motor for your year for quite a bit cheaper than an h22...if you dont mind not having vtec

H22s are too heavy man, i'd go with the b16 then boost it.

well, he has a 5th gen, which is light in comparison to a 6th or 7th gen. and if he has a hatch dx, then its like paper. toss an h22 into their, and the torque with launch that thing like crazy

H22 is cheaper by aobut $1000 than a B18c1 (gsr) but the H22 will give you more power. You will need to aquire a prelude power steering unit and a conversion kit a few honuder for those. Then you can have power steering. (i dont know why you want it, but oh well) power steering = less power to the wheels. Any way, import from www.ardperformance.com or www.streetimports.com These companys have been around a long time and have a reputation. all in all your lookin at 5k for everything including the work. good luck man

the h22 isnt too heavy, if ya put that engine in your gonna need suspension more than i can tell ya. 200 hp just from the engine is nutz. go for full suspension work, ya cant jsut do coil overs with 200+. and especially strut tower bars, becasue that engine bay is gonna want to flex.

thanks for the replies guy. I just woke up here in the UK. Yeah I do plan to just drag but i will be cruising around in the car and if a race comes along i dont wanna have totally s**t handling due to the extra weight. Is it not posible to counteract this with better suspension and strut bars etc.?

What is a ls/vtec??

Wha is the reputation of www.hmotorsonline.com because they offer a great package on the H22 complete swap!

So power steering loses power to the wheels.....but then I'll have to actually use energy to turn the wheel!! :P

Rice4brains you ar right I have a 5th gen hatch (1.5ltr LSi) and I relly do want straight line speed but dont want a motor that is f**kin crazy to contorol!!

So do you guys recommend the H22 then?? Also, check that link out and tell me whether you think it is worth it or not as $ dont make sense unless their in ££s hehe.

Has any1 done this swap before on this forum who can tell me what the car handles and drives like!! Bet its f**kin fast tho!

sorry one last thing, i read an article about the swap and they said that you have to get rid of the power steering and a/c but also some crap about the h22 using cables rather than (i cant remember) sand that it is tricky to do. Ill see if i can find that article.

IF YOUR GOING TO CRUZ AROUND TOWN DONT GO ALL MOTOR WICH IS BASICALLY WHAT UR DOING WITH AN H22

LIKE A FEW OTHER PEOPLE SAID GET A B16A AND BOOST IT, OR GET THE CHEAP LS ENGINE AND BOOST THAT, U DONT NEED VTC TO BOOST..

YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO FABRICATE THE CHASSIS WICH CAN BE COSTLY. THE H22 IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY

IF U WANT THE POWER OF THE H22A HERE IS MY SUGGESTION ALTHOUGH IT WILL BE COSTLY...

1. GET A B18C
2. CHANGE THE PISTONS
3. DO SOME HEAD WORK
4. ADD A B16 TRANNY

YOU WILL KILL ANY H22 ON THE ROAD.

PLUS YOU WILL LIKE THE AVAILABILITY OF AFTERMARKET PARTS FOR THE B SERIES ENGINES, BECAUSE THE H SERIES HAS A SMALLER NUMBER OF AFTERMARKET OARTS WICH MAKES SOME ITEMS EXPENSIVE..

ANY MORE QUESTIONS PM ME AND I WILL AWNSER THEM ALL

Is the H22 swap REALLY that bad? holy s**t. I didnt know there was chassis fabrication envolved. I have seen the b18c w/ a B16 tranny, and I was impressed.....

The H22 has too much torque and I've heard of a lot of people having traction problems. Of course you can learn how to drive it right. I think a B18C5 is the best way to go. It is a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for.

the only thing you need to do with the h22 is get special motor mounts, thats it. i have a shop down here that makes there own, and you probably have a shop around where you live that makes them too. anyways... H22's are great, if your going in a straight line. If your putting it in a civic, its strictly a drag/ 1/4 mile car. The weight of the motor and the motor mount adjustments change the center of gravity in the car and you won't be able to turn the car worth s**t.....
also there are different H22 Motors.
the good one is the H22 Type S.
its very different from the H22A motor. you should check out the motors pretty close cause theres about a $3,000 price difference.
Unless your gonna go with the type S its almost not worth your time....
