I am actually from Cali and learned to drive in the snow while in Tahoe. Which has it's share of gnarly, 2 lane, little side of the the mountain roads with switch backs and all. In fact they require chains most of the winter. And that's where I always saw compact cars in ditches.You don't know what snow is in Jersey. Come live on a mountain in New Hampshire and I'll show you snow. We average more than 120" of snow a year.
And the people in ditches are the ones in big trucks. Sucks to try to stop 5,000lbs in the snow.
