Just reading about delta 32. Wow, it's incredible. Hope it runs in my family. It makes you immune to HIV and it's a natural gene mutation.

On HIV and delta 32:
-------------------------------------------------
CCR-5 Delta 32 Heterozygosity May Slow Progression of HIV Disease

Reuters Health Information Services (12/23/97)
Abstract: Dr. Graeme Stewart of Westmead Hospital in New South Wales and colleagues compared the presence of CCR-5 delta 32 mutations, CD4 and CD8 counts, plasma HIV-1 RNA, p24 antigen, and beta-2- microglobulin levels in HIV-positive long-term nonprogressors (LTNP) with that of HIV-positive patients who progressed rapidly and HIV-positive patients with less than 500 CD4 cells per mL. The team detected CCR-5 delta-32 heterozygosity in 35.9 percent of the LTNP group, but only 12 percent of the other two groups demonstrated such heterozygosity; the LTNP group also had higher CD4 and CD8 counts than the other groups. The researchers, however, did not find any significant correlation in the LTNP group between heterozygosity and CD4 count, viral load, p24 antigen, or beta-1-microglobulin. Based upon these findings, the team reports in the December issue of AIDS that the higher CD8 counts in LTNP is of particular importance because these T cells produce soluble factors capable of suppressing HIV replication in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, which may offer therapeutic implications for HIV infection.

CCR5-Delta 32 Mutation Linked with More Severe Hepatitis C Virus Infection

CHICAGO (Reuters Health) - The HIV-1 CCR5-delta 32 coreceptor mutation, which has been shown to slow HIV-1 disease progression in infected Caucasians, appears also to be associated with more severe hepatitis C virus infection, investigators reported here this week at the 8th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections.

Dr. Rainer P. Woitas and colleagues at the University of Bonn in Germany used PCR to determine the frequency of the mutant CCR5-delta 32 allele in 151 HCV-infected patients, 105 HIV-infected patients and 130 dually infected patients. "On average, about 30% of HIV-infected patients also have HCV infection," Dr. Woitas told conference attendees.

The research team found a "striking increase" in the frequency of the homozygous CCR5-delta 32 genotype in the HCV-infected patients compared with the others. In the HCV-infected patients the frequency of the homozygous genotype was 3- to 7-fold higher than predicted by the Hardy-Weinberg equation, Dr. Woitas said.

In dually infected patients, he and his associates found that the HCV loads were significantly higher than the HCV loads in the patients with hepatitis alone.

Patients who were heterozygous for the mutation showed only a trend toward increased HCV loads.

Although the mechanism is still unknown, Dr. Woitas suggests that "it is conceivable that cell-related immune response is altered by this mutation."

The findings of the Bonn researchers "suggest that this mutation is associated with a worse outcome for hepatitis C infection," Dr. David D. Ho of the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center commented. "This certainly is a novel observation and will shed some light on the mechanism of control for hepatitis C virus, which is a frequent co-infection in AIDS patients."

ung. so i'm having an interesting night/couple days.

i havent slept in 2 days. im entered in a photography contest that starts at 6 am and lasts until 6 am tomorrow.

i'm supposed to go to a party in another city tomorrow night at like 10 and get completely trashed with my friends, so we'll see.

....................

STORY TIME!!!!11!!....
....................

Went to Saw 2 tonight with some friends, my car and 2 others were parked near each other, a lot of our local friends have "PWNings" that go back in forth, basically unexpectedly you'll show up an have window chalk all over your windows.

We get out from the movie and our cars are PLASTERED with homosexual inuendos, pink confetti, what not.. it f**king rules. Kyle, who owns 1320video.com ,took a ton of pics I'll link up here or something. We walk up to them, like 5 cars of our friends show up with window chalk and cameras, laughing... we bullshit around in the parking lot for 20 minutes and end up window chalking basically EVERYONE's car.

Then we make a huge line and drive to a car wash, right through the front of the theater, in front of some stores, passed people, in traffic... I have chalk penises all over my windows and pink string dragging up to 20 feet behind.

IT RULED.
