For you that have only used Windows. Have you ever thought about using another OS?
Those who have used other OS like Linux or Mac, what was your thoughts about your favorites.
And for the ones that say "I hated OS ???" Why would that be? What did you hate about it.

I am trying to go for an informative thread. I was in major debate on to what to use and figure this may help others that may want to try other OS but are not sure where to go.

i've thought about running ubuntu, but i don't really see the point. perhaps it's something i'll play with if i ever build my desktop. don't want a mac... used windows for so long getting on a mac is weird and backwards to me..

and i hate windows 7 starter because i think it's bullshit to make so many versions of the same product and make people pay a lot for features that you had with, say, XP. four versions of W7, really? :wtfsign: until jason posted that little change your wallpaper program... i could change it with W7 starter. what a stupid feature to take away. themes and all the customizable s**t that makes W7 pretty doesn't work in the starter version.

hate vista because it's buggy, they just shoulda waited to release something that worked properly.

4 versions for different platforms, uses and industries.

Starter was made specifically for Netbooks.
Home Premium for home/home office use
Professional for business industry, has domain groups, ect.
Ultimate for both home and business use. Has some great features that HP or Pro doesn't.

i'm sorry, i see no use for starter. don't get why it can't just have home basic at least. :what: aaaaaaaaaand it's rather expensive. lots of other things i'd rather spend a couple hundred dollars on than freaking windows.

Windows starter was put on netbooks to make some tasks easier to accomplish. I would use a netbook for on the go situations for ease of use and carrying. A netbook with Starter would not be good for everyday computer uses.

Also, to upgrade its only 80 dollars. Still high but not couple hundred.

I've tried Mac. Don't like the user interface. I don't like how it's setup.

I had Vista. My computer was too slow to handle it. Hated it. Certain things about it bothered me, the way it was setup.

Ubuntu just looks goofy. I don't have any interest trying it.

I use XP in classic style appearance. Nothing can get more simple for me. I have my quick launch at the bottom with all the programs I use daily and a dozen or so icons on my desktop, half of which I don't use but I'll organize it every once in a while once I figure out I don't need them anymore.

To me, an OS is an OS is an OS is an OS. You're just paying for appearance and features. Why spend the time and money for something else when I know how to use one efficiently?

[rant]I love OSX because of the operating systems ability to understand. For example, I went and bought a printer the other day. I plugged it into my usb port on my macbook pro and it recognized it. I ran apples software update and it found the best drivers for the device. Osx always does this. I have never had a compatibility problem, ever. When I use my computer it functions. I love my macbook because apples backs the product. I actually bought a lemon macbook pro a year ago. I had issues with the superdrive dieing. every 4 months it seems like the super drive would crap out. the last time I took it in my warrenty expired by 5 days. I told the apple people what had been happening and how many time I had brought the machine in. The manger came out and he told me he was going to swap my late 2008 model mbp for a new 2010 I5 MBP. I mean who else does that? I love apple and their products.[/rant]

I think xp is outdated and clunky but I used it for a long time. It was an okay operating system in its time. even though it was buggy.

Vista - crappy, used too much memory, not compatible with much, driver issues.

windows 7 - a better version of windows vista from what I can see. I haven't used it much though.

Ubuntu - it has a plesent operating experience. I like how much you can mod it. I wish it was a little more straight forward to mod though. lots of code.

Your statement answers your question. It's all about compatibility, features, experience, and stability. You choose xp because it's what you know you are comfortable with it and thats the features you want. A person drives a ferrari and not a geo metro because of the different features, hoow the car makes them feel, and quality of the build. It's all the same stuff. It's just what flavor do you like.

It's not as buggy as people make it out to be. It's a really stable release as long as you don't start throwing bullshit toolbars with loaded malware on it. I don't have any stability issues with XP.

It's a MUCH better version of Vista. I hated Vista, was such a POS release.

^ I think your screen resolution is too big! And, I also think you have too much memory for the purpose in which you are using it for. Another thing, all those USB ports are pointless!

I also for got to add; The lack of a multi-button mouse or a singular button mouse bothers me. How do you expect to navigate that file system with no mouse? What exactly are the joy sticks for? Those DO NOT! belong to computers.
