Wow, that turned out really well. I know what you mean by being proud of it, despite it being *just* a shift knob.

Looks amazing good stuff.

Question I read that rubbing compund is 1500 grit in a bottle is this true?

I have polished lips and I want that shine from the knob could you advise me how to get that shine.

I know mothers has a great deal with it but where can I find 1500 sand paper?

The highest I find is 600 by me.

So basicly I would have to find 1500 sand paper and I already have the mothers mag polish cream.

The only issue you may have, is that alot of "polished lips" wheels are machined finished, then clear-coated. You may find that this is the case for your wheels..
If in the direct, bright sunlight, if the reflection is somewhat "rainbowed" or has some prism-like effect, then most likely, it is cleared.. There's not alot of raw aluminum-polished wheels out there, anymore, as most people are too lazy to maintain the upkeep ;)

My BBS wheels were cleared, as were my M-series BMW wheels I had.. Most of my other "polished" wheels have been cleared, as well.. I've actually owend only a couple sets of raw aluminum wheels, such as Centerline, and Bogarts. There's more out there, obviously, those are just two examples.

As for 1500g paper, check hardware stores, or bodyshop supply places. Ensure you get Wet-or-Dry paper. Keeping the paper wet also helps to keep the coarseness retained and aluminum from clogging up the paper..

actually, no because it reflects the sunlight. stays quite cool.

For all those asking for tips, I pretty much just went for it and sanded more to cover up mistakes. I'm no expert, so i'm not sure if I did it the exact or most effiecient way, but the end result speaks for itself. I think the best way to make it looks good, is to keep the grain all going the same way during the 1500 grit process. what I did, was held the sandpaper in my left hand and spun the knob against the paper with my right hand. and with the polish, always go in small circles.
