I am seriously thinking of purchasing a drag turbo kit for my 2000 SiR I just have one question though. The kit comes with everthing I need except for injectors it comes with a vortech FMU I understand how it works when it senses boost it up the fuel pressure but do I also need a fuel managament system like a greddy emanage or a hondata?? If I dont need that at the start how much boost can I run safely with a FMU??

no you dont need emanage or anything...all you need is the FMU and i recommend also getting a 255lph walbro fuel pump which will run you only around 100 bucks. You can use your stock injectors and everything. I used to run 8-9psi on an fmu with no problems. If its just a temporary fuel management solution for you then you can run 8-9 pounds but if you plan on not upgrading stay at around 6psi. I also recommend retarding the ignition timing about 3 degrees. about .33 degrees of timing per pound of boost. But yeah other than the fmu all you'll need is to upgrade your fuel pump.

yeah then you need to buy bigger injectors which is more than it would cost just to run an fmu until you get some more money together. Just get a high flow fuel pump man and youll be good.

:werd: from the money you sell your FMU for you can buy an obd1 ecu, obd2b to obd1 conversion harness, and chip your obd1 ecu for uberdata. youll be able to tune your car better for boost.

I think im gonna just start with the FMU and a higher flow fuel pump im gonna run 7-8psi so at first that will be a huge pwr difference for me right there and when I get bored of that then ill go with a better fuel managment system. Thanks for the info guys.

well a fmu isnt all that bad, but uberdata and hondata is 10x better. for us poor people who cant afford these chipping items, fmu's are the thing we flock to. how much boost you run is relative to the turbo blah blah blah, so for his drag kit i wouldnt run anywhere above 7lbs but for your greddy kit you could probly run about 10lbs. if you want a really good turbo setup, save your nickles and dimes and get hondata.

so with the fmu u basically dont need tuning or something? I wanna go turbo with a FMU cause thats all I could afford. but when people say u need to tune your turbo to run properly I dont understand how that works...im not gonna resleave my h22 so ima run around 6psi 7 tops for daily driver. help me out also

to be safe you should put in a walbro pump, but it would be worth it to just buy a hondata ecu even though they cost you and arm.

IMO the fmu works. but if you ran it multiple times on the d yno and see what it does to the AFR's you prob would never run it again. transition into boost is sluggish and the fmu NEVER gives the same AFR curve twice. its forever changing and very innacurate. ive tried many turbo setups. some FMU setups work. but ive seen a lot that just simpley dont work or end up detonating. the key here is timing control. timing is what kills motor and you need to keep that in check.

so my engine will blow with a fmu
it probably wont blow if you run under 10lbs, but if it starts detonating then let off the gas(d'oh) and turn down the boost by at least 3lbs.

you can use hondata for obd2 or convert to obd1,run uberdata (free almost) and find someone who has a basemap for your setup and have someone tune it
