why would you want to do that?
:werd:

Usually the only reason that you would need harnesses would be for road racing or drag racing and those people have racing seats.

racing harnesses are not safe unless you have a roll bar, i doubt you have a roll bar and stock seats. it would not be safe for you.

it can be done on those seats u mentioned, (def. cant be done on EG seats! LOL!) but theres really no point in doin it... just a hassle. easier to buy cheap racing seats and put harnesses on them.

harness bar is garbage.. it wont do d**k to protect you in a roll over..

if you want a harness get a cage/roll bar thats the only real safe way IMO...

without the main hoop of the roll bar/cage... in a roll over the roof will come in on you and the harness will hold you upright snapping your kneck and/or spine... thats why i say you need the cage or bar..

He doesn't need either. If it's for looks then get the harness bar. If it's cause you are going to autocross then get a roll cage depending on the level you are going to race at. Local SCCA events do not need a roll bar.

he doesnt "NEED" a windshield or any seatbelts for that matter.. but most people want to do the safest thing..

first of all.. it doesnt matter what level he is autocrossing in.. scca rule book 3.3.2 strongly suggests the use of a roll cage roll bar... no they dont mandate it but they recomend it.. now thinking about your average highway speeds VS your average autoxing around a parking lot.. hmm if they recomend one when driving aggresively around a parking lot.. ill go ahead and assume that driving aggressively at 100+ mph on the highway one would be equally usefull..

I am not saying you have to have it to autocross....I was meerly stating that if he is gonna be the "weekend warrior" type when it comes to racing then he might want to think about it. Either way if he gets one it needs to be installed properly because if the belt is installed wrong he can do more damage than good. You really should not use a roll cage in everyday driving unless it's padded or you are wearing a helmet. Your bare head hitting the roll bar is not a good thing.

Yeah, and the roof crushing your spine is fantastic. The roll bar is not situated DIRECTLY above your head. Your harness will keep you IN YOUR SEAT. You'd have to be 7 feet tall to hit your head on the roll bar.

I now the roll cage is not right over your head. If you use a racing harness with a roll cage then you are not gonna hit the damn bar like if you use your regular seat belt. You should just be concerned with where it goes along the door frame. I love how it is asumed I am a complete idiot. It is not like I am pulling this out of my ass. I have read this in HT mag and heard it on a couple of performance shows. The same time they caution about proper harness attachment in the vehicle so you don't do any damage.
